MY REVIEW
If you watched the movie Old Fashioned you will love the book written from the screenplay. I love books more than the movies and this book is really fantastic. Lots of the same parts from the movie, but you can really get a clear, sweet picture from the book.
Written by Rene Gutteridge which I know is a fantastic author and Rik Swartzwelder who wrote the screenplay and helped put this book together, really is talented.
Really an interesting book, but my favorite part was the last chapter. It is so sweet and tender. Full of love and compassion. I recommend this for all of you lovers of romance.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Ginger Kolbaba is on a journey to embrace joy in every moment. She doesn't always succeed (she's a recovering cynic, after all), but she loves to learn from the adventure of the pursuit. She loves a good laugh, a ready smile, a dog's smooch, great food (vegetarian, thanks), growing faith, and remembering that love is all-powerful. She also claims one of her greatest gifts is ranting (good-naturedly, of course).

An accomplished author, Ginger has written, ghostwritten, collaborated, or contributed to more than 20 books, including her upcoming The Old Fashioned Way, set to release in January 2015.

MY REVIEW
The Old Fashioned Way written by Ginger Kolbaba is an excellent study guide on dating, courtship and romance.
Each chapter introduces a different subject and tells of different situations that can occur and how to handle them in your relationship.
After each chapter is a part for reflecting what you have learned it is called Consider this and some chapters have you doing some journaling. Or there might be a quiz or something to pray about.
Really a full kind of study that will get you thinking and help you with all of the things that come up.
  I highly recommend this book.

The Hiding Place A Review

ABOUT THE HIDING PLACE
"Every experience God gives us . . . is the perfect preparation for the future only He can see."--Corrie ten Boom

Corrie ten Boom was a Dutch watchmaker who became a heroine of the Resistance, a survivor of Hitler's concentration camps, and one of the most remarkable evangelists of the twentieth century. In World War II she and her family risked their lives to help Jews and underground workers escape from the Nazis, and for their work they were tested in the infamous Nazi death camps. Only Corrie among her family survived to tell the story of how faith ultimately triumphs over evil.

Here is the riveting account of how Corrie and her family were able to save many of God's chosen people. For 35 years millions have seen that there is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still. Now The Hiding Place, repackaged for a new generation of readers, continues to declare that God's love will overcome, heal, and restore.

MY REVIEW
I’ve never read The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom before, but heard so much about it. So I was greatly overjoyed to receive this copy and be able to read it for myself. It’s a youth reader’s edition and I know that any young person or older alike would love this book.
It tells of the hope and faith that Corrie and her sister Betsie had and how they overcame all of the horrible obstacles in their way. I just love to read how God answered their prayers and how He gave them hope and courage.
One of my favorite parts was how they smuggled their Bible into the prison camp and they were never caught.
Also another favorite part was how Betsie got everyone to praise God because they had fleas in their prison. That is what kept the guards from coming in to search the ladies belongings. At the time when they were praising God for the fleas they didn’t know that was why the guards never came in. What a blessing.
After Corrie was released {another miracle} she went on to have homes set up with lots of gardens to help the people after they got out of the prisons. A place to heal.
 Highly recommend this wonderful book.

Miss Brenda and the Loveladies by Brenda Spahn and Irene Zutell A Review

ABOUT MISS BRENDA AND THE LOVELADIES
One woman’s fight to provide hope for the hopeless…
Seven ex-cons who changed her heart forever…

For Brenda Spahn, entrepreneur and businesswoman, wealth was a lifestyle—until a brush with the law threatened to send her to prison. In those dark moments, Brenda made a promise to God.

Spared incarceration, a renewed Brenda glimpsed into the lives of women serving time in one of the worst places in America—the Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women in Wetumpka, Alabama.

What she saw prompted a God-inspired vision.

With a heart to help and a will that couldn’t be crushed, Brenda fought the system and overcame tremendous obstacles to take ex-cons into her own home and help them navigate the alien world of life on the outside.

This is the story of Brenda’s journey from rags to riches to redemption. It’s the story of the first unlikely year of her “Whole Way House” and of the extraordinary lives of the first seven women who came to call her “Miss Brenda.” It’s a story that testifies to the power of faith and how God changes hearts every day.

It serves 450 women and children every day, providing substance abuse counseling, drug rehabilitation, meals, childcare, career counseling, and job opportunities to women working to establish successful lives outside of prison walls. ABOUT IRENE ZUTELL
Irene Zutell is the author of the critically acclaimed novel Pieces of Happily Ever After and coauthor with Vanessa Williams of You Have No Idea.

MY REVIEW
Miss Brenda and the Loveladies is a very good book that I found interesting and heartwarming. How a lady is very successful and almost goes to prison, but gets a second chance at life. So she decides to help those coming out of prison to get a new start and to make a difference in life.
I never really thought about how a woman would act or get along in society after being in prison her  whole life or for most of it. It was eye-opening to me.
The chapter that really hit me is called Imagine. Here’s the first paragraph of that chapter. “Imagine if you could not remember any time in your life when you had been happy. Imagine if you’d never been to a party or a restaurant or an amusement park or a beach. It would be your birthday and no one would give you a present or bake you a cake or even say, “Happy birthday.” You never had a Christmas tree. You didn’t really know about Christmas or Easter or New Year’s. You never learned how to ride a bike or swim or play catch. You didn’t go to your prom or a dance or a school play or a football game.”
We just take for granted all that we have and all that we have learned.  Some of these ladies only know about doing drugs or anything to make more or get the food and shelter they need. They also know sooner or later they will get caught. It’s just a way of life for them.
Brenda and her family start showing love and that they care. It takes a while, but then they start to trust again.
Good book that I recommend.

He is also a colon cancer survivor and speaks often about dealing with suffering. Find out more about Mike on his website, www.MikeDellossoBooks.com.

MY REVIEW
Centralia by Mike Dellosso is one of my favorite books of the year. It only took me two days to read and that’s fast for me. Centralia is a thrilling book full of suspense. You never know what will happen next. Each chapter, almost every page has something new happening. If you like to guess what will happen next in a book you will never be able to in Centralia.
Centralia is a real place. Centralia is a borough and a near-ghost town in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, United States. Its population has dwindled from over 1,000 residents in 1981 to 10 in 2010[2] as a result of the Centralia mine fire that has been burning beneath the borough since 1962. Centralia is the least-populated municipality in Pennsylvania.
In the novel Peter doesn’t believe his wife and daughter are dead and then he finds a message from his daughter in the back tank of the toilet. So the search begins, but there are so many things that happen that you will be on the edge of your seat.
This is an amazing book and you will love it. You won’t believe the things that happen. I highly recommend Centralia and know you will love it. Fantastic job Mike Dellosso.

Old Fashioned DVD Review and Giveaway

ABOUT OLD FASHIONED
A romantic-drama, OLD FASHIONED centers on Clay Walsh, a former frat boy who gives up his reckless carousing and now runs an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town. There, he has become notorious for his lofty and outdated theories on love and romance as well as for his devout belief in God. When Amber Hewson, a free-spirited young woman with a restless soul, drifts into the area and rents the apartment above his shop, she finds herself surprisingly drawn to his strong faith and noble ideas, which are new and intriguing to her. And Clay, though he tries to fight and deny it, simply cannot resist being attracted to her spontaneous and passionate embrace of life. Ultimately, Clay must step out from behind his relational theories and Amber must overcome her own fears and deep wounds as the two of them, together, attempt the impossible: an "old-fashioned" and God-honoring courtship in contemporary America.

MY REVIEW
Old Fashioned is a different kind of movie. Usually all love stories talk a lot about sex and going out with many different partners, but Old Fashioned tells about a young man, Clay who has a past that he wants to forget.
Clay was a playboy whom got tired of it and started to follow God. He has many new rules about what a relationship should be like. He even goes as far as not being in the same room alone with a woman. I admire couples who put God first and keep their relationship pure, but I do think that this movie goes to far the other way.
Clay really has a self-righteous attitude and his Aunt tells him what she thinks of it and him. That really gets to Clay and makes him think. He was trying to hard to be prefect when no one can be.
Both of the main characters in this movie are very likable and do a great job.  I will recommend this movie If you like a love story, romance, and an ending that is the best part of the movie and where both partners are searching for truth, morals and values.

MY REVIEW
Love’s Abundant Harvest  by Beth Shriver is the first book I’ve read by this author. It was a good book and I enjoyed it.  I was quite intrigued after reading the back cover of the book, but when I thought that Lucy met Manny after her husband died I was mistaken. They knew each other before and became acquaintances if not friends. I didn’t like that part, because it would have been better if they met after and became friends.
Lucy had a hard life with her husband. He didn’t physically abuse her, but with words. She was beaten down with everything she said or did.
Lucy was pregnant before her husband died and Lucy didn’t want to raise the children alone. She was with her grandmother and sister and lots of friends, but she still felt alone.
Lucy and Manny become more than friends, but Lucy has twins and then the problems start. Will she make it or will trouble keep happening?
I enjoyed this book and recommend it.

MY REVIEW
Get to Me by Lara Van Hulzen is an excellent book.
Aimee sees someone being murdered and she can identify him. So the murderer is after her. Aimee’s best friend is a police offercier and so is the best man at her sister’s wedding. Dane is also very handsome and ready to be of help. It ends up with Dane taking Aimee to his parents ranch where he knows she will be safe.
In books like this you usually hear more about escaping the killer and how they are trying to get him, but in Get to Me the story is more about Aimee and Dane’s friendship and how Dane is having a hard time forgetting his past and moving on. The killer is only in the first and last parts of the book. I guess that is alright, but I like more of the book to be suspenseful.
Another thing I didn’t care for was the occasionally use of swear/slang words. I mean it wasn’t often, but more than I like. Also the last part I didn’t care to read the very vivid description. I won’t say what it is about in case you want to read this book. I think you really should, because it is excellent. I would give it 5 stars if the author would have left out the parts I mentioned. I do recommend it.

Trials of the Heart A REVIEW

ABOUT TRIALS OF THE HEART
From celebrated author Janette Oke (The Love Comes Softly series) comes a rigorous and romantic adventure as epic as the wide frontier. Erin Krakow (Army Wives), Daniel Lissing (Eye Candy) and Lori Laughlin (Full House, 90210) star in When Calls The Heart, "a beautiful story with roots in relationships, self-empowerment, and the enduring power of love", (Common Sense Media).

Elizabeth Thatcher (Krakow) is an independent, strong-willed teacher who has foregone the life of the big city and found a job, a home (and romance with a handsome Mountie named Jack) in the small frontier town of Coal Valley. But when she learns that her mother has taken ill, she returns to Hamilton, her hometown, with Jack as her escort. Once in the comparably opulent Hamilton, Elizabeth and Jack are confounded by Jack’s ne’er-do-well brother and Elizabeth’s former suitor, Charles Kensington. But it is Elizabeth’s father, William, who drives a wedge between them when he suggests to Jack that Charles would be a better match for his well-bred daughter.

MY REVIEW
The two hour special of When Calls the Heart season 2 is just fantastic. It is full of love, surprises and danger, but so very, very good.
What we have all been looking forward to is the trial and many, many surprising things happen with that.  I love that it was a lady lawyer who came. At first everyone thought she couldn’t do the right job, but that soon changed.
Elizabeth is called home because her mother is ailing and Jack takes her. She fits in like she never left, but Jack doesn’t.  You can watch as Elizabeth shops with sisters, has parties and renews old friendships.
You will be astounded at all of the new things that happen and also rejoice at the old friends we made in season one and meet many new people who become friends in season two.
Two hours of suspense, family, love and hope.  I highly recommend this fantastic show. I love it because the values are wholesome and it is just an exciting show. You need to buy the DVD and if by chance you have never seen these shows you must watch just one. If you do watch one you will be hooked and join all of us Hearties.
Highly recommended.

The Geography of Heaven by Mark Johansen A REVIEW

ABOUT THE GEOGRAPHY OF HEAVEN
If we believe that Heaven is real, we should not expect it to look like a cartoon. The fairy tale picture of Heaven as a place where the souls of the departed have tiny wings and fly around on clouds, wearing white robes and playing harps, has very little to do with what the Bible says about Heaven. The Bible describes an Eternity more complex place than most people think. It is not just Heaven and Hell. The Bible also talks about Sheol, Hades, Tartarus, Gehenna, the Lake of Fire, the Abyss, New Jerusalem, Paradise, New Heaven and New Earth. And here’s a funny point: Nowhere does the Bible say that anyone goes to Heaven when they die. That’s someplace else.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I am a software engineer by profession. Sadly, I make far too little money from writing to quit my day job. My first writing efforts were for computer magazines: Microcomputing, Micro, Ahoy, Dr Dobbs Journal, etc. Alas, the first three of those are out of print and the last is, I think, now on-line only. I also wrote an editorial for World, a news magazine, and a couple of articles for Creation, an Australian science and nature magazine. (Creation changed some of my American-English spellings to Australian-English. I tell people it was my first foreign-language publication.) I've contributed chapters to books on criminology, economics, and civil rights.
I was born in New York, spent most of my life in Ohio, and now live in Michigan.

MY REVIEW
The Geography of Heaven by Mark Johansen is a very interesting, thought-provoking book. I can tell a lot of research and thinking went into this book.  Mark Johansen doesn’t believe that the saved will go to Heaven or that there isn’t such a place.
He says God is on His heavenly throne, but Christians will either go to the New Earth or the New Jerusalem. First the saved will go to a place called Abraham’s Bosom until judgment day. Also the unsaved will stay in a place called the Pit until they are cast into the Lake of Fire.
He brings up many points and scripture verses that prove his theory. I find this book quite interesting and would love for all of you to read it and give me your opinion. What Mark Johansen writes really makes sense to me, but I will be happy whenever I’m at as long as Jesus is there. So I will recommend this book. It will keep you guessing and get you to study your Bible to find the answers.
