THE ACTORS

Lynn Whitfield (Vanessa), one of the most respected members of the African American acting community, is an Emmy Award-winning actress who is well known for the authenticity she brings to her portrayal of women from all walks of life. She vaulted to international fame in the 1991 HBO biopic "The Josephine Baker Story," portraying the legendary Civil Rights fighter. Her performance earned an Emmy Award as "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Special or Miniseries." After taking some time off for her greatest role, mother to daughter Grace with Josephine Baker director and former husband, the late Brian Gibson, Whitfield starred opposite Bill Cosby in "The Cosby Mysteries" (NBC, 1994). Lynn has won five NAACP Image Awards and four nominations for her work in film and television, including "Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story" (2004) co-starring Jamie Foxx. She attracted a new generation of fans in two of the Disney Channel's highest-rated movies, "The Cheetah Girls" (2003) and "The Cheetah Girls 2" (2006). Other select feature film roles include the Chris Rock vehicle, Head of State (2003); Tyler Perry's Madea's Family Reunion (2006); Mama I Want To Sing (2008), a remake of the off-Broadway musical; Kings of the Evening (2008); The Rebound (2010); and Things Fall Apart (2011), produced by and co-starring rapper-actor 50 Cent. She stars as Vanessa in KING'S FAITH, a faith-based film centered on the values of faith and family.

Before he decided to focus on acting, Crawford Wilson (Brendan) was nationally ranked in tennis and a Wilhelmina model. The acting bug took over at age twelve, and he moved to New York City from his family's home in Memphis to pursue his dream of being on the big screen. He later moved to Los Angeles where he landed his first big job: a recurring role CBS's "Judging Amy, playing the boyfriend of Amy's daughter. Crawford's voiceover career took off as well, beginning with the role of young Rodney (Ewan McGregor) in the Fox animated film Robots. Today Crawford continues his voiceover work with recurring roles on hit cartoon shows like "Avatar" and "Batman." Recently television credits include the lead role of Dwayne Dill in the Disney Channel movie, "Hatching Pete." He just completed filming for an NBC movie, "Secrets of the Mountain," playing the lead role of Jake.

Award-winning actor James McDaniel's (Mike) career has spanned more than three decades. He is best known for his role as Lt. Arthur Fancy (for which he won both Peabody and Screen Actor's Guild awards) on the long-running television show, "NYPD Blue." James won both an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award for "Edge of America," a Showtime movie that he also produced. Other television shows include "Hill Street Blues," "LA Law," "Cop Rock," and "Detroit 187." He also was in mini-series from Alex Haley ("Queen") and Steven Spielberg ("Taken"). His film roles include Sunshine State, Malcolm X, and The Road to Galveston. A stage veteran, James recently returned to New York in a successful run of an adaptation of Carson McCullers' "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter." He also appeared in a new play by Pulitzer Prize winning author Suzan-Lori Parks, "Father Comes Home from the Wars." His most notable previous stage productions include "A Soldier's Play," "Before It Hits Home," and "Six Degrees of Separation."

Kayla Compton (Natalie) moved to Los Angeles to pursue her longtime dream of acting and singing. She quickly had success and played Monica on the HBO hit, "Entourage." She also appeared on TNT's "Perception." In KING'S FAITH, she plays Natalie, the popular high school cheerleader with a past she is trying to hide. Raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Kayla has wanted to be a performer since she was a young girl. Singing was her main passion until her drama teacher in high school told her she should really look into acting, a craft she quickly fell in love with.

Brandon Correa (Eli)  spent most of his life (from ages 4-18) in foster care and group homes. The trials and difficulties he faced would later become his motivation to pursue the arts and allow him to connect to his first major acting role as Eli in KING'S FAITH. While he is new to the acting world, Brandon is an entertainer who spends much of his time writing lyrical music and performing hip hop and rap music.

MY REVIEW
King’s Faith on DVD is an excellent movie full of action, suspense, faith and love. It tells a story of Brendan who had no family and got involved in a bad life with many bad decisions.  In was in and out of many foster families and finally got put in a juvenile penitentiary. While there he became a Christian. When he gets out he has his last chance.
Friends from  Brendan’s past look him up and try to get him to become involved again. They try to pressure  Brendan by going after his new friends.
What will become of him and his faith now that he’s out?
This is a very entertaining DVD and full of action. It captured my young adults attention and they really enjoyed it.  A really nice movie to watch with the whole family. Even though it is a Christian film the acting and scenes are very professionally done.
King’s Faith tells us that with Jesus we have second chances and life can be good and fulfilling. You don’t have to be angry all of the time or out to get everyone. I highly recommend King’s Faith.

MY REVIEW
Ted Dekker is one of my most favorite authors and when I get a chance to read and review one of his books I feel blessed. I’ve read Blessed Child years ago and loved it so I read it again to review it.
This is a story about three people and what they went through and how they came to love each other. Caleb is a sweet, compassionate boy who amazes and surprises everyone he meets. He just loves the Lord so much that it just shines through him. He is close to the Lord because he is so innocent.  Jason saves Caleb from his home before soldiers come and destroy it. Jason has a very sad, hurting past in which he lost his young son and wife. He just can’t love God because Jason believes he doesn’t care for us humans.
Leiah is a very scarred person on the inside and on the outside. She doesn’t trust or love anyone.
Then these three come together in a horrible run for their lives. Why is someone after Caleb and will they stop when they reach the US? Full of suspense, love, forgiveness and the sweet love of our Lord.
Highly recommend this wonderful book. Blessed Child by Ted Dekker and Bill Bright.

MY REVIEW
This is the first book I’ve read of Chris Pennington and for the most part I really enjoyed it. I believe Chris will be became a great author in time.
I love end time stories. Rapture’s Rain takes a different kind of road than the normal rapture stories and for the most part I really thought it was a neat story. I just didn’t care for the ending. I thought it lacked a little something, but don’t think this should keep you from reading this wonderful book.
Another thing I didn’t care for in the story is some of the language contained cuss words. I really don’t think they are necessary even when someone is upset or something really horrific happens.
I think this story should be considered a fictional story instead of end times story. I enjoyed reading Rapture’s Rain and recommend it for you also.  It really captured and kept my attention and it was very well put together except for the ending.

God's Colonel by D.I. Telbat A Review

ABOUT THE BOOK
As America collapses and the Antichrist rises as supreme from the carnage, a broken family struggles to survive the devastation. They become entangled with the non-compliant underground Christians, and are caught in the crossfire of End Time plagues that strike the ungodly with fiery judgment.

Emit Dross, a runaway and criminal, returns as an imposter to the community of his troubled youth. Upon arrival, he finds that his hometown has become a military outpost for the Global Security Forces One World Government—the GSF. He soon realizes that his stolen identity may be an asset, though he finds himself tested greatly. Is it too late for Emit to heed the words of the Underground Christian Broadcast playing on the radio stolen from his deceased father?

Correctional Officer Gray Dross agrees to work for and bow to the GSF, therefore he experiences comfort while others struggle to survive. Inside, he is full of hatred and bitterness toward his brother Emit's rebellious youth, and he abandons what once was important to him. Will he continue to live for himself while thousands perish under his guard?

Flo Dross finds solace in her daughter and a stranger who is left at their farm by security officers. Her heartache is lost in the shadow of the 10-year conflict between her brothers. As tensions rise globally, Flo finds her mother's most treasured possession. Will Flo fall back on what her late parents taught them?

The guillotine is thirsty for the blood of the non-compliant Christians. They are under the command of the secretive Colonel O'Regan, who answers to the powerful, demonic General Norvasso, whose eyes are set on the global leadership of New Roma.

The future seems bleak, but the daring perseverance of the unwavering few seeks to salvage the faithful, whose flickering light is becoming ever dimmer. When death seems the only end to the chaos around them, someone guarding a deep secret may be the only hope for the remaining underground believers.

God's Colonel is a 48,000 word End Times Novel by D.I. Telbat, with cover art by Sean Johnson. Getting into trouble with the law as a young man became a turning point in David's life. The Lord used that experience to draw David into a personal relationship with Him. Re-focusing his life for Christ, David now seeks to honor God with his life and his writing.

David studied writing in college, and worked in the newspaper field, but now he is doing what he loves: writing and ministry. He is involved with several ministries, which includes writing and directing Christian plays. When not busy with ministry, he focuses on writing novels, short stories, blog posts, and prison ministry newsletters.

He has kept his home office in the Northwest U.S. where his assistant, Dee, lives and helps with his writing and editing needs.

There is no redemption without sacrifice.

MY REVIEW
I’m totally mesmerized by D.I. Telbat’s books, but this one is the best yet. I could read his books every day and not get enough.
God’s Colonel is an End’s Time book about the antichrist taking over and making everyone pledge allience to him or be killed. In God’s Colonel Emit was a trouble maker growing up in a Christian family and when the End Times events started happening he knows what is going on and works on the Lord’s side.
This book is also about Emit’s brother and sister and how they all become Christians as this book is starting and how they serve the Lord and help other Christians to escape death.
I found this book totally fascinating and didn’t want it to end, but couldn’t read it fast enough. God’s Colonel is exciting, captivating and full of escaping, but also how the Lord has all things in control.
Really love this book and know you would love it. So I’m highly recommending it.

MY REVIEW
God, Me, and Sweet Iced Tea is such a wonderful little treasure, you will surely enjoy reading it. It is a devotional book with 52 devotions. At the end of each devotion there are several Bible passages for you to look up to go along with the devotion. The next part is something to write in a journal and next a question to go along with the lesson.  Then Rose gives a prayer, then a sweet tea moment, which gives you something to consider and lastly something for you to pray for that you might not think of.  All kinds of topics are mentioned in this book like contentment, taming the tongue, service and a good conscience to name just a few.

Laura Frantz author interview and book Giveaway Love's Awakening

Today I’m interviewing Laura Frantz author of Love’s Awakening.  Here is my review of this wonderful book.

TRINITY ROSE Tell us about Love's Awakening the featured book .

LAURA Beloved daughter. Wayward son. Will a future with him cost her all she holds dear?
The book is set in 1822 Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, including early Pittsburgh, and is a story of the Underground Railroad and the entwined lives of three families – the Ballantynes, Turlocks, and Camerons. Lots of twists and turns and romance and some historical fireworks! It continues the story in book one, Love’s Reckoning, with Eden and Silas Ballantyne and focuses on their daughter, Ellie.

TRINITY ROSE Has being published changed your life?

LAURA Yes. I was a stay at home mom for many years after working as a teacher and social worker. My boys, Wyatt and Paul, kept me plenty busy. It’s a joy to work from home now writing books but it also is a challenge as I don’t go to the office so everyone still has access to me Winking smile. Carving out writing time requires a lot of discipline. Thankfully I love it and can’t wait to sit down and do it!

TRINITY ROSE What do you find harder to do come up with a character, get the scenery or the plot?

LAURA I think plot is often the trickiest part. I’ve heard it said that if you have strong, compelling characters you can have a weak plot but watch out if your plot is weak and your characters are, too. I’ve never dug myself a hole yet as far as plot, thankfully, as the Lord always bails me out. I rely on His guidance and leading completely for these stories of mine otherwise I couldn’t do it. Scenery and character development seem to come more naturally to me. Maybe too naturally as I can get wordy!

TRINITY ROSE Which do you enjoy more e books or print books?

LAURA I always prefer a print book but love the ease of e-books. There’s something about seeing a cover and holding a real book that is very comforting and meaningful to me. Love the feel and smell of them, etc.

TRINITY ROSE Thanks for taking the time answer questions for us and for donating a book.

LAURA Thanks so much for hosting me! It’s always  a joy to share a CBA book and meet new readers.

Burning Sky by Lori Benton Author interview and book GIVEAWAY

Today I’m interviewing Lori Benton author of Burning Sky. Here is my review of this wonderful book .

TRINITY ROSE Tell us about the featured book.

LORI Burning Sky is a novel about war, though no battles are depicted in its pages. But the Revolutionary War trails its aftermath of loss through the lives of those who survived it. This is a story about such loss—loss of loved ones, of home, of ability, and identity. It’s also a story of healing, of mending brokenness. It’s the story of wounded people learning to trust a loving God, to understand His nature in the midst of tragedy and pain. It’s a story of faith, hope, and love, spanning generations, races, and cultures, set amidst the war-ravaged New York frontier of 1784.

In the pages of Burning Sky you’ll meet Willa Obenchain, captured by Mohawk Indians twelve years previously and renamed Burning Sky. Stripped of both identities, yet haunted by each, she’s come home to Shiloh, New York to find the land and people she once knew irrevocably altered and largely unwelcoming. Willa wants to be left alone to mourn her losses, but God has other plans—plans for healing, for restoration. And He’s placed Scottish botanist Neil MacGregor in her path to begin the process.

TRINITY ROSE Has being published changed your life?

LORI I’ll say! The work load is heavier. Finding time to write is harder. Gone are the days when I wrote a book without distractions like editing the book I already wrote and promoting the one I wrote before that. It’s a juggling act, but one I’m determined to master and, God willing, I'll be given more opportunities to practice!

Another huge change is the readers. It’s been a delight and a blessing to watch readers react to my characters and story for the first time in the twenty+ years I’ve been writing novels. It’s both gratifying and creates in me a sense of intense vulnerability. It's still a little surreal, but in a good way.

TRINITY ROSE What do you find harder to do, come up with a character, get the scenery, or the plot?

LORI Setting detail isn’t hard if I’ve done my research. Making sure there isn’t too much, and that what is there is from a character’s close point of view, not my own (in other words, the description is something that particular character would notice at that particular moment), is the hardest thing about description.

Plot and character are more intertwined in my writing process. Plot often comes about because of character. Conversely, sometimes I create a (minor) character to serve a certain plot need. And plot is often dependent on historical fact. I can’t change history, so I weave my stories through it. Character is also largely influenced by the social mores and intellectual beliefs of the time period. I try not to create characters who are 21st century people in 18th century costume. All of it requires months of research, careful thought, and outlining before the writing even begins. At least that’s the way it works for me!

TRINITY ROSE Which do you enjoy more e books or print books?

LORI I have yet to purchase an ereader. I have a Kindle for PC program, but I don’t enjoy reading from a screen, especially since that’s what I do all day already. I want to turn off the computer and sink into a cushion somewhere with real pages in my hand, when I do find the time to enjoy a novel. As far as research goes, I highlight, make notations, and sticky-note my books to death, so I can find information fast when I need it. If all that was contained on some electronic device, I’d likely forget it was even there, much less be able to access it again quickly. Besides, overflowing bookshelves is one of the happiest sights I know.

TRINITY ROSE Thanks for taking the time answer questions for us and for donating a book.

LORI Thanks for having me on your website! I look forward to signing the book to the winner.

The last person Gage McKenna expects to see during his summer aboard a cruise ship leading adventure excursions is Darcy. And in typical Darcy fashion, she's digging up more trouble.

He'd love to just forget her--but something won't let him. And he can't help but worry about her as they are heading into more remote regions of Alaska and eventually into foreign waters. Something sinister is going on, and the deeper they push, the more Gage fears they've only discovered the tip of the iceberg.

MY REVIEW
This is the third book in the Alaskan Courage series by Dani Pettrey and I just love it. This series is full of adventure, suspense, intrigue, love and forgiveness and Stranded is another wonderful addition to this series.
Darcy and Gage met in book two of this series Shattered and they didn’t get along, but had an attraction to each other. After book two they both went their  separate ways and tried to forget each other, but God had other plans. They were dropped into each other lives again.
This is a neat story about being on a cruise ship, but taking side trips when the ship was docked at different ports. Gage and his family were in charge of the side trips. Darcy was on board because a friend of hers asked her to come and help find out why women disappeared off of the ship and never were found. Then Darcy’s friend disappears and the danger begins.
I love all of the mystery and suspense of this book. It is a book that is hard to put down and you can’t wait to find out how it ends, but at the same time don’t want it to end.
It is also full of tenderness, love and forgiveness. Really an excellent book. Highly recommended.

Rufus and Ryan Go To Church by Kathleen Long Bostrom a review and BOOK GIVEAWAY

ABOUT RUFUS AND RYAN GO TO CHURCH
In Rufus and Ryan Go to Church! Ryan explains to his stuffed monkey, Rufus, what is happening as they attend church on Sunday morning. He lets Rufus know when it's time to sing and to pray and to be quiet.
About the series: Rufus and Ryan is a new series of board books for preschoolers, featuring Ryan, an energetic little boy, and his stuffed monkey Rufus. The series focuses on religious and church concepts, as well as character traits and development. The text is presented in young Ryan's voice as he teaches Rufus about the things he is learning himself.

In about 150 age-appropriate words, author Kathleen Bostrom brings a delightfully light touch to the text as she provides an introduction to practices and experiences that many children are exposed to long before they understand why. And children everywhere will relate to the idea of explaining their surroundings to a favorite companion as they go about their daily activities.

MY REVIEW
Rufus and Ryan Go to Church by Kathleen Long Bostrom is a sweet, lovely book that your young child or grandchild will love. Also fantastic for a giveaway to your Sunday School children.
Ryan is a very charming character who loves church and his monkey Rufus. He talks about his favorite parts of church and can’t wait to go each week.
The board book makes it so easy for your young child to look at the pictures and read and reread as the young usually do. The pictures are so very colorful and full of happy faces. The church and the day are bright and beautiful.
This is just the book for your young child who loves to look at pictures and read. I highly recommend this book.
