ABOUT TRACES OF GUILT
Evie Blackwell loves her life as an Illinois State Police detective . . . mostly. She's very skilled at investigations and has steadily moved up through the ranks. She would like to find Mr. Right, but she has a hard time imagining how marriage could work, considering the demands of her job.

Gabriel Thane grew up in Carin County and is now its sheriff, a job he loves. Gabe is committed to upholding the law and cares deeply for the residents he's sworn to protect. He too would like to find a lifetime companion, a marriage like his parents have. . . .

When Evie arrives in Carin, Illinois, it's to help launch a new task force focused on unsolved crimes across the state. She will work with the sheriff's department on a couple of its most troubling missing-persons cases. As she studies old evidence to pull out a few tenuous new leads, she unearths surprising connections. One way or another, she knows Gabriel Thane and his family will be key to the answers she seeks.

MY REVIEW
Traces of Guilt by Dee Henderson is such an excellent novel. I think this would be an excellent  beginning of a series of the Thane brothers. Each book I read of Dee’s just gets better and better. I love her style of writing. In this novel you meet some new characters but also get  reacquainted with some old ones. Which is something I love. It is always nice to find out what some of our old friends are up to now.
This book is like three stories in one. It covers the cold cases, the searching for a woman’s parents that left her with an Uncle when she was small, and the telling of why a woman doesn’t think a relationship with one of the Thane brothers will work, because of her past. Each story on it’s own is very interesting.
The prominent story is of  Evie and she is a very smart detective that comes up with all kinds of new ideas to try and solve cold cases. I really did enjoy reading about her. The cold cases she is trying to solve are :A deputy, his wife and eleven-year old son, disappeared. And in an unrelated case, a six-year-old girl was abducted from a hotel.
I like Gabriel Thane so much because he loves his family, his job and the people around him, mostly his faith in God is the best part of his life. He is the small town sheriff that helps Evie and keeps his town together.
Love this book and I highly recommend it for you reading enjoyment.

Drawing Fire by Janice Cantore A REVIEW

ABOUT DRAWING FIRE
One case from her past defines homicide detective Abby Hart.

With a possible serial killer stalking elderly women in Long Beach, California, Abby’s best lead is Luke Murphy, an irritating private investigator who saw a suspect flee the scene of the latest homicide. When Abby discovers that the most recent victim is related to the governor, she’s anxious to talk to him about a cold case that’s personal to her—one Luke is interested in as well.

As she learns more about the restaurant fire that took her parents’ lives years ago, Abby discovers why Luke is so invested in finding the ones responsible. The more they uncover, though, the more questions they have. Can Abby find peace without having all the answers?

MY REVIEW
This is a really good suspenseful novel. Luke and Abby are very likable. Besides the suspense there is romance, but not the main theme.
Since the author is a retired police officer she really knows the ins and outs of suspense and how things operate.
Abby wants to know why her parents died and why everyone keeps telling her to let the case be. Abby knew the one way she could get closer to the truth is to become a detective and worrk on it, but so many things keep happening and then Luke shows up and he has a very real interest in the same case. At first Abby doesn’t like the hot shot PI, but things change.
You will want to read Drawing Fire to find out what happens with Abby and Luke. How they get along, how they get around road blocks.
Very good, interesting novel, that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Highly recommended.
