BEST PICTURE WINNER- 2014 INTERNATIONAL CHRISTIAN FILM FESTIVAL
WINNER BEST OF SHOW- SEDONA FAITH AND FAMILY FILM FESTIVAL

Nashville , Tennessee- A LONG WAY OFF is a spirited, modern day retelling of the classic biblical Story of the Prodigal Son – a story about father-son relationships and about the mercy and forgiveness of both his heavenly Father and his earthly father.  Jake Abraham (JASON BURKEY/October Baby) works for his father (JOHN DIEHL/Stargate), a successful produce farmer in North Carolina.   Jake doesn’t like agri-business very much and he’s desperate to leave for the excitement and faster life of the big city. To his shock and delight, his father suddenly agrees to give Jake his inheritance so he can strike out on his own. Bidding farewell to his dad, his brother, Seth (DAVE BLAMY/Army Wives), their loyal secretary, Mrs. Grey (EDIE MCCLURG/ Ferris Bueller’s Day Off/Frozen) and their ranch hand, Jose (ROBERT AMAYA/Courageous), Jake heads to the city where he meets a new friend, Summer (ZOE MYERS/ Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues) at the local coffee shop. But Jake is all too eager to sow his oats and make his fortune in a series of sharp stock market moves. He soon runs afoul of an opportunistic temptress (JOANNA JOWETT/Destiny Road) and her mysterious boyfriend, Frank (ROBERT DAVI/ License to Kill/Goonies/Diehard), and in the process, loses everything and finds his life on the line.
Written by Jon Macy and co-directed by Michael Davis (Destiny Road) and John Errington (A Box for Rob). Davis also serves as producer; Gerald McGlothlin and Christy McGlothlin are the executive producers for ProdigalFilm LLC. Word Films releases A LONG WAY OFF on DVD and digitally August 19th.  For more information or to see the trailer go to www.alongwayoffthemovie.com.
Synopsis-  Retelling the timeless parable of a father’s unconditional love, tempestuous young Jake tries to escape the duties of the family business by leaving his home and taking his dreams to the big city. Far from the wise words of his father, Abraham, Jake is finally free to live the high life that he’s always wanted, trading the traditional values of his upbringing to revel in every temptation that money can buy. Just when Jake thinks the world is his playground and every day offers another enticing opportunity, he must come face to face with the consequences of the life he’s chosen. Jake must learn that sometimes it takes losing everything to realize/appreciate what he left behind, and if his mistakes can ever outweigh the grace of a father’s forgiveness.

MY REVIEW
A Long Way Off is a fantastic DVD.  It is a modern day story of the prodigal son. I really love this story anyway it is told. Since it is the prodigal son story you know how it ends, but each telling is different.
The main character Jake thinks he knows it all and wants to be rid of his father and brother and the farm. He wants to have a life of his own. So he leaves for the city and invests in many things and he has it all.  All  of the girls, cars, houses and money anyone could want, until it all comes crashing down.
Jake has no money, no friends and nothing. He meets someone down and out who works on a farm and he helps Jake to come to the truth that he needs to go home.
My favorite part of the movie is when Jake goes home and his father meets him on the lane to his farm. It was an emotional part and very tender. Just to see the love and hope born anew.
I think this modern  version is really incredible. I believe A Long Way Off is a DVD you need to have. I highly recommend it and know you, your family and friends will love it.

The Good Book DVD ~A Review~

ABOUT THE GOOD BOOK DVD
The Good Book, an evangelistic SILENT feature about a small Bible that is passed along to fourteen strangers, impacting the lives of seven of those individuals. The story is told via dramatic action and dynamic soundtrack. It closes with testimonies from a Bible smuggler and a convicted murderer who received a Bible while in prison.

The Good Book movie is the first evangelical silent feature to be released since sound was added to movies.  It tells the story of a small New Testament that is passed along from individual to individual. These include young and old, rich and poor, blessed and forsaken. For seven of the strangers, it provides hope and meaning when they need it most.

Mainstreet Productions husband and wife team Fred and Sharon Wilharm produced their first faith-based feature in 2000. The Good Book  movie is their fifth. Past movies include Class of 91 and Flowers for Fannie. When he's not making movies, Fred is busy producing commercials, web videos, and music videos. Sharon is the editor/ writer for Faith Flix, a blog focused on faith-based filmmaking.

MY REVIEW
The Good Book is stories about several different people/families. A small Bible travels to each of these people and they are helped by it and then it goes on to someone else. I really liked how the Bible was the main theme of this movie, but I didn’t like how no words were spoken in The Good Book. Some people say you can get more out of something by just watching it , but for me it didn’t work. I must say though the music in the background was very lovely and inspirational.
It was an enjoyable DVD, but could have been much better with words.  The Good Book has a strong Biblical based story and keeps you entertained.

Threads of Joy By Sharlene MacLaren~A REVIEW~

ABOUT THREADS OF JOY
JOY WESTFALL, a single woman who runs a tailoring business out of her little home and has a 4-year-old illegitimate daughter knows first hand the bitterness of rejection. Her talent with a needle supersedes her tainted reputation, however, and she has no trouble finding clients. What she lacks is true friendship. Living next door to a little clapboard church on the edge of town, even the folks of the church pay her little mind when they come and go on Sunday mornings--unless she happens to be outside tending her flowerbeds in which case they quickly turn their children's heads away or shake their own at her in utter repulsion. Inside, their hymns of praise compete with the birds, but outside their hypocritical noses turn up at the sight of her. Not until LUCAS JENNINGS, the new preacher, begins to befriend her and her innocent daughter does she grasp what pardon feels like. The trouble is his congregation begins to accuse him of having sinful thoughts, one woman in particular going so far as to campaign to have him removed from the pulpit. When tragedy strikes, Lucas's messages of repentance resonate with his members, drawing an entire community together, changing the hardest hearts, and turning folks' minds toward what really matters in life--love, faith, and forgiveness

She and her husband, Cecil, live in Spring Lake, Michigan with their beautiful white collie, Peyton.

MY REVIEW
Threads of Joy by Sharlene MacLaren is a wonderful, uplifting book full of love and surprises.
Joy felt no one liked her or cared for her, and rightly so she thought, because of her past. Joy felt her life was on the right track when she married the man whom she thought was the answer to her dreams. He turned out a swindler and already married, but now Joy has a little girl whom she loves more than life.
Living next to a preacher and his church is bad enough, but when he is so kind to them Joy can’t stand it.  How can she repay her debt to him and get him to leave them alone.
Many, many adventures happen in Threads of Joy, much soul searching and hardships. You will be amazed at the way this book turns out. You will see how God directs both of these people and how when things turn bad that you can always depend on God to see you through.
I just love the cover picture and the title. They really fit the book.
I have never read a book by Sharlene MacLaren that I haven’t liked. Her books always are full of love, forgiveness and deep. She doesn’t write books that are fluff as I call them. You come away from her books uplifted and know she puts a lot of thought and knowledge in them.
Highly recommended.

MY REVIEW
Love Finds Faith by Martha Rogers is book two in The Homeward Journey series. I didn’t read book one, but that didn’t take away from this book. It is a great stand alone book.
My first time reading a book by Martha Rogers and it was enjoyable, but I just have one part that I didn’t care for in this story. Maybe things like this happen, but I think it is so shallow of the character.
The part I’m talking about is one of the main characters that didn’t come to faith until everything started working out in his life. Like he was getting the money and woman he wanted. I just wondered if things didn’t start going his way would he not have become a Christian?
That being said, the  characters were very likable, the scenery was well described and the plot was great, except for the part I mentioned.
I think it is a book worth reading so you can find out for yourself what an excellent author Martha Rogers is. I recommend it.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jody Hedlund is an award-winning and bestselling author of inspirational historical romances.

As a busy mama-writer, she has the wonderful privilege of teaching her crew of 5 children at home. In between grading math papers and giving spelling tests, she occasionally does a load of laundry and washes dishes. When she's not busy being a mama, you can find her in front of her laptop working on another of her page-turning stories.

She loves reading almost as much as she loves writing, especially when it also involves chocolate and coffee.

MY REVIEW
Captured by Love by Jody Hedlund is an O.K. book. The main reason I wanted to read it is because it takes place at Michilimackinac Island which now is called Mackinac Island today. I loved how Jody described the scenes and the Island. You can picture yourself there, but I didn’t care for the main character Angelique. She is very indecisive and knows what she really wants, but doesn’t take it because it would make her like her floozy mother.
I’m glad the story ended like it did or I would have hated the story. I think in the last couple of chapters Angelique and Pierre were foolish for acting as they did.
I enjoyed how all of the different situations helped Pierre to get into a better relationship with the Lord. How he came to lean and depend on Him.
Just not my favorite story, but you might love it.

MY REVIEW
I’ve been a fan of Lynette Eason for years. I’ve enjoyed every book she has written and this one is another fantastic read.
Hide and Seek tell the story of Erica who’s daughter was kidnapped, but she never gave up hope of finding her. During this time her family and husband all pulled away from her, because she was so devoted to finding her daughter.
Erica and her brother and his friend started up a skip tracer agency to find other lost and kidnapped children in hopes of one day finding her daughter.
In her efforts she comes in contact with Max whose sister is the new link in the kidnapping case. Find out how well they get to know each other and what happens to all concerned.
I loved this book, because it tells you never give up, but also you can learn that you don’t push others away when you need them most.
The love inspired Suspense books from Harlequin are my favorite reads. They are interesting, short and come to the point quickly. Lynette Eason does a fantastic job in this book. I highly recommend it. This is my own book and I wasn’t asked to review it.
