The Christmas Tree Keeper by Tamara Passey A REVIEW

ABOUT THE CHRISTMAS TREE KEEPER
Though Angela Donovan is out of work and needs money for rent, she yearns for her eight-year-old daughter to have a carefree holiday. The last thing she wants is the pressure of her daughter expecting a miracle. But when they pick out a Christmas tree at a cozy Massachusetts tree farm that’s exactly what happens when they learn the trees might be miracle trees.

Mark Shafer is soon to be the new keeper of the Christmas trees when he inherits the family farm. He’d like to run it with a family of his own, but his girlfriend wants nothing to do with farm life. He makes plans to sell so he can propose to his girlfriend and pursue a career in music. Then he meets an unforgettable customer and her daughter, and an anonymous gift compels them to learn the truth about the trees.

With a buyer willing to pay top dollar for the land, Mark has the fate of the trees in his hand. Will he be able to see what and who is most important? And will Angela give the miracle of love a chance?

MY REVIEW
This is the first book I’ve read that was written by Tamara Passey. I was very glad I got the chance to read The Christmas Tree Keeper.
Angela and Mark learn what family is really about in the novel and also you can’t always trust everyone you meet.
It all starts when Angela takes her young daughter to a Christmas Tree Farm to get their tree. They meet Mark and his grandfather. The strange thing is the grandfather said that the tree they took is a miracle tree all you have to do is believe. Angela is almost past believing.
Mark is thinking about selling the tree farm and getting a lot of money to buy a house and go into the music business.
You won’t believe all of the coincides that bring the two of them together. It seems they are always running into each other.
In The Christmas Tree Keeper we read about believing, not giving up, mending broken families and the one best thing Love. Highly recommended.

The Christmas Joy Ride by Melody Carlson A REVIEW

ABOUT THE CHRISTMAS JOY RIDE
Miranda did not put adventure on her Christmas list, but thanks to her eighty-five-year-old neighbor Joy, that's exactly what she's getting this year. When Joy tells Miranda that she plans to drive an old RV decked out in Christmas decorations from their Chicago neighborhood to her new retirement digs in Phoenix--in the dead of winter, no less--the much younger Miranda insists that Joy cannot make such a trip by herself. Besides, a crazy trip with Joy would be more interesting than another Christmas home alone. Unemployed and facing foreclosure, Miranda feels she has nothing to lose by packing a bag and heading off to Route 66. But Joy has a hidden agenda for their Christmas joyride--and a hidden problem that could derail the whole venture.

No one captures the heartwarming fun of the Christmas season quite like Melody Carlson. Fasten your seat belt, because it's going to be an exciting ride!

Her novels range from serious issues like schizophrenia (Finding Alice) to lighter topics like house-flipping (A Mile in My Flip-Flops) but most of the inspiration behind her fiction comes right out of real life. Her young adult novels (Diary of a Teenage Girl, TrueColors etc.) appeal to teenage girls around the world. Her annual Christmas novellas become more popular each year. She's won a number of awards (including Romantic Time's Career Achievement Award, the Rita and the Gold Medallion) and some of her books have been optioned for film/TV. Carlson has two grown sons and makes her home in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and yellow Lab dog. To find out more about Melody Carlson, visit her website at http://www.melodycarlson.com/

MY REVIEW
The Christmas Joy Ride by Melody Carlson is just a delightful read. Combine Christmas, a very giving woman and a woman who has lost everything and doesn’t know what to do next makes a fantastic story, but when you put going across country in an RV in the mix anything can happen and usually does.
Eighty-five-year old Joy has to go live with her sons. She lives in Chicago and they live in Phoenix. She decides instead of flying to Phoenix she wants to take her RV. The reason  being is on her blog she had a contest and asked people who needed Christmas. So Joy wants to give them some Christmas Joy. She’s chosen several places to stop and will decorate their place and give them things they need.
Miranda her young friend thinks she’s crazy, but won’t let her elderly neighbor go alone. Maybe this trip will give Miranda a reason to live and give her some joy.
I really liked all of the lessons in this book. About being positive, never giving up and the biggest one we can always help someone less fortunate than us.
Melody tells a wonderful story about what Christmas is really about. Read this wonderful book to see if Joy can make such a long trip, what will happen if her sons find out and also how Miranda fits in this whole Christmas scene. A very wonderful book that I highly recommend.

When Others Shuddered Eight Women Who Refused to Give Up BY Jamie Janosz A REVIEW

ABOUT WHEN OTHERS SHUDDERED:EIGHT WOMEN WHO REFUSED TO GIVE UP
When Others Shuddered: Eight Women Who Refused to Give Up is the story of eight women called to serve God and who, in doing so, changed the world. They lived at the turn of the century, rubbing shoulders with the well-known men of their time, like John Rockefeller, Marshall Field, and Dwight Lyman Moody.

These women—Fanny Crosby, Mary McLeod Bethune, Nettie McCormick, Sarah Dunn Clarke, Emma Dryer, Virginia Asher, Evangeline Booth, and Amanda Berry Smith—were unique. They were single and married, black and white, wealthy and poor, beautiful and plain, mothers and childless. Yet, each felt called to make a difference and to do something—to meet a pressing need in her world.

These women wanted to live lives less ordinary. Their stories inspire us to follow God’s calling in our own lives. They teach us that each individual person can make a difference. These eight women will show you how God can use your life to change the world.

MY REVIEW
When Others Shuddered Eight Women Who Refused to Give Up by Jamie Janosz is an interesting book. It’s not an entertaining book, but one that tells about the lives of eight different women who didn’t follow the normal things in life for their time period.
Each chapter follows the life stories of these ladies, Fanny Crosby, “Emma” Emeline E. Dryer, “Nettie” Nancy (Fowler) McCormick, Sarah Dunn Clarke, Amanda Smith, Virginia Asher, Evangeline Booth, Mary McLeod Bethune. They all grew up in the 1800’s and early 1900’s.  All of these ladies knew and worked with at times D.L. Moody.
Fanny loved to learn even though she couldn’t see. As we know she wrote hundreds of Hymns.
Emma helped people after the Chicago fire and got things in order to start a Bible school.
Nettie became very rich, but gave so much away and helped so many people. She didn’t let her riches make her any better than the poorest person she helped.
Evangeline helped to get the Salvation Army into many countries and put others above herself.
All of these women put God and others ahead of themselves. Many of them didn’t even marry because their work and God meant so much more than their own happiness.
It’s remarkable what they accomplished for being women in that time period. Really interesting. Recommended reading.

His books have been highly reviewed by USA Today and in magazines such as Publishers Weekly, RT Book Reviews and Library Journal. Dan and his wife live in the Daytona Beach area where he's busy writing and researching his next novel. They have 2 grown children and 2 grandchildren.

MY REVIEW
Rescuing Finley by Dan Walsh is just a wonderful book. In this first book of the Forever Home series it tells about the life of three different characters. Finley the dog, Amy a young lady who made a lot of mistakes in life and Chris a marine who served in Afghanistan and suffered greatly.
Before we get to Amy or Chris, Finley’s story starts as being a dog to a wonderful young man who loved him greatly, but they also lived with the young man, Chaz’s mother. She wasn’t a dog person. So when Chaz went to war and didn’t come back, Finley got taken to the shelter.
Amy was in prison and joined the dog training for Vets program. She never owned a dog, but always wanted to. Chris made it back from the war, but was emotional scarred. Would a dog help him? Follow the lives of these three amazing characters. Each one struggling in their own way. Can they find happiness together or not?
This book is highly emotional, fantastic story from an excellent author. Look forward to reading the other books in this series. Recommended to anyone who loves animals, Vets and stories of people who made wrong decisions.

MY REVIEW
Vendetta by Lisa Harris is the first book in the Nikki Boyd Files series and I have already fallen in love with the characters. I really am looking forward to book two. Nikki is a Special Agent on the Tennessee Missing Person Task Force. After her sister was abducted 10 years ago that is all she wanted to do. Nikki kept looking for her sister all of those years as she helped find other abducted girls. She has such a strong character, very likable and sweet.
Nikki’s best friend died and Nikki is still good friends with her friends husband. They worked together on this case and helped each other greatly. They are always there for each other.
The drama and action kept me on the edge of my seat. Very riveting and exciting. Vendetta has many twists and turns and you won’t be expected the ending. It was a complete surprise and that’s what I love in mystery books I read.
Also Vendetta has a small amount of a possible romance. I think when the romance is the main topic of the book it really takes away from the suspense and action.
Vendetta is highly recommended and I really enjoyed it.

MY REVIEW
This book Devotions from Billy Graham God’s Good News is a wonderful, precious retelling of the main parts in the Bible. Any child will be held captive as they hear the stories read to them or read them, themselves. The pictures are amazing. This book is illustrated by Scott Wakefield. You could just go through the book and look at the pictures and know what the story is about.
At the end of most of the stories is a little note from Billy Graham asking questions and giving you things to think about.
This is a wonderful keepsake for you and your children. They say the ages are 4-11, but I believe younger and defiantly older children will love it as well.

Coming Clean by Seth Haines A Review

ABOUT COMING CLEAN
“I suppose we’re all drunk on something.”

Seth Haines was in the hospital with his wife, planning funeral songs for their not-yet two-year-old, when he made a very conscious decision: this was the last day he ever wanted to feel. So he asked his sister to smuggle in some gin, and his addiction began.

But whether or not you’ve ever had a drop to drink in your life, we’re all looking for ways to stop the pain. Like Seth, we’re all seeking balms for the anxiety of what we believe is an absent God—whether it’s through people-pleasing, shopping, the internet, food, career highs, or even good works and elite theology. We attempt to anesthetize our anxiety through addiction—any old addiction. But it often leaves us feeling even more empty than before.

In Coming Clean, Seth Haines writes rawly through the first 90 days of a work of sobriety, illuminating how to face the pain we’d rather run from, and even more importantly, how Jesus meets us there. Because it is only when we face our anxieties with the tenacity and tenderness of Christ’s passion that we truly discover that we are indeed clean, surrendered, and whole.

MY REVIEW
Coming Clean is a true journaling of a man who was addicted to alcohol. The book is his first 90 days of sobriety. His drinking started when their young son isn’t thriving and Seth believes he will die. He can’t face up to the pain so he hides behind the drink. The first part of his sobriety is quiet sad and he has a very hard time, but with God and facing his past he finds the help he needs.
This book isn’t full of happiness and joy, but a journey that will keep you reading to find out whaat answers Seth finally comes to.
Seth tells us that there are many ways to hide and not face the truth. Some ways may be an addiction to food, cutting or to your body. Each addiction needs for us to draw closer to God and put Him first.
Coming Clean is a very good book full of truth and insights. You are never totally alone. God is always there. Another book to recommend.

This Harry Potter super-nerd has been known to eat an entire package of Oreos (family size) by herself, and watches Fiddler on the Roof at least once a year. She writes about brave living, finding purpose, and other worlds soaked in imagination. Her dystopian trilogy (The Out of Time Series) challenged her to pursue shalom, which is now her favorite word (followed closely by bumbershoot.)

When Nadine's not taste-testing a new chai or editing fantasy novels, she and her knight-in-shining armor (nickname: "hubby") are out pursuing adventures.

MY REVIEW
A Time to Speak by Nadine Brandes is such a wonderful, wonderful book. This is book two in the Out of Time series and I must say I can’t get enough of this amazing series. This is the second book Nadine has written and book one A Time to Die won the Carol Award and was a Christy Award finalist.
You need to read book one before you read book two A Time to Speak, because if you don’t you will miss a lot of back story.
I couldn’t read this book fast enough, but didn’t want it to end.
Parvin and Hawke are both sent back across the wall with a lot of boxcars full of her people for not having clocks, which all of the people had to have. Parvin was O.K. with this because she was thrown across the wall in book one, but now they have passed the place where she was before and taking them to a very, very cold place. How can they survive? How will they all come together and try to work things out.
Marvelous book and one that will find a place on my book shelf. This series is a keeper. Highly recommended.

The Boy Born Dead by David Ring with John Driver and David Wideman A Review

In 1953, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, a baby boy was born--dead. The attending physician set his little body aside and tended to his mother for eighteen minutes. Now, more than sixty years later, that boy leads an internationally known ministry that encourages hundreds of thousands every year. The Boy Born Dead tells his incredible story from the perspective of his best friend, David Wideman.

As a teenager in the small town of Liberty, Missouri, in the late 1960s, David Ring grew up with the challenges that come with cerebral palsy, a result of his eighteen minutes of newborn silence. Along with his physical limitations, Ring was orphaned and shuffled from home to home, finally landing in an abusive situation that made him feel unworthy of love and, eventually, unworthy of life. But God had a purpose for Ring's life, and sent an agent to help him achieve it. Through the friendship of David Wideman, a boy he met in the halls of Liberty High School, Ring found strength he didn't know he had and went on to face his demons, marry the love of his life, and start an international speaking ministry.

Full of hope, this moving story illustrates how friendship and love triumph over adversity. Anyone who faces tough times will treasure this story of hope and courage.

Watch a video of David Ring on the site I am Second.

MY REVIEW
The Boy Born Dead is a truly amazing book. It is a story of friendship, courage, and triumph. This is the true story of David Ring told by David himself with the help of John Driver and his best friend David Wideman. I love stories where people have disabilities or tragedies and come through and are strong for the Lord. This is an amazing story of David whom was born dead and didn’t breath until 18 minutes later. As a result David has cerebral palsy. David when through so much and felt he couldn’t take anymore and tried to kill himself.
This book talks about the real difficulties and hardships of a young man that others teased, took advantage of and abused. Where do you go when there is no hope, no peace, no life? The place David went, to God.
This is such a remarkable book that is so full of truth, tragedy, hardship, peace, love and joy. Life for a teenager is hard enough, but when they have a disability it’s ten times harder.
I just love the courage and hope of this dear person. How with God’s help he overcame and is now a strong speaker for the Lord.
Amazing book. Read it and you will be inspired to do more for the Lord. I highly recommend this precious book.

Faith of our Fathers DVD review and GIVEAWAY

ABOUT FAITH OF OUR FATHERS
John Paul and Wayne are two young men in search of their fathers. Problem is….their fathers have been dead for 25 years. Eddie and Steven are two young men in search of their sons….whom they’ve never met.

In 1969, Eddie and Steven are with their squad deep in the jungle of Vietnam on a five-day mission to retrieve fallen comrades. They write letters to their wives, often mentioning their love for their sons, one, who is an infant and one yet to be born.

In 1994 John Paul and Wayne go of a five day road trip to the Vietnam Wall in Washington DC to see their fathers’ names. Along the way, reading those letters, they begin to get an understanding of who their fathers were and how they died.

Trials and mishaps, both funny and sad, complicate the road trip for the boys. The horrors of war and the testing of faith manifest themselves for the young men in Vietnam. Ultimately, in parallel stories-25 years apart-the fathers and sons are bound together forever.

MY REVIEW
Faith of our Fathers is a very serious DVD, but with moments of great humor and fun. It tells the story of two different groups of young men. Two are the fathers and then it tells the story of their sons 25 years later. The DVD goes back and forth between the two and it is so very good.
The two fathers in Vietnam is a truly touching, heart-rending story that I just loved. It really shows the things that go on in war and how faith is a big part of it.
The two sons also is touching, but with so much humor thrown in that you will laugh at parts and cry at other parts.
Very good DVD. You won’t want to miss this one. This story Faith of our Fathers is made by the same studio that brought you God’s Not Dead. Highly recommend Faith of our Fathers.

Rise and Shine A Contemporary Fairy Tale by Sandra D. Bricker A Review

ABOUT RISE AND SHINE
Shannon Malone thought she'd found her happy ending when she married Edmund Ridgeway, but a diving accident on their honeymoon left her in a coma. Waking up to the news that she's thirty years old would have been daunting enough . . . but she also learns that Edmund has lost his interim battle with cancer and the world has marched on without her. Her gorgeous doctor, Daniel Petros, seems to know everything about her and becomes Shannon's tour guide into a whole new world of madness where reality television has taken over the planet and everyone's life appears to revolve around a tiny screen on their cell phones!

As Shannon struggles to navigate through the changes-both in the world andin her-she also must discern real memories from imagined ones. Did she really ever wear capris pants and entertain in her living room, or was that Laura Petrie from her favorite classic TV show? And where is her beloved dog, Freeway? Oh, wait! That was Jonathan and Jennifer Hart's dog, not hers.

Shannon's three elderly aunts flit through her life in true Sleeping Beautystyle with her well-being always a priority. And Edmund's sister Millicent descends like the Evil Queen she is, trying to extract Shannon from any claim on the Ridgeway family fortune. When a tornado moves through town and Shannon is knocked unconscious, will Daniel's kiss awaken her once and for all?

MY REVIEW
Rise and Shine by Sandra D. Bricker is a very sweet, cute, love story. It’s a present day fairy tale.
I found it very interesting and sweet. Imiange being in a coma for 10 years and coming back to the world. So many things would be different. Not just technology, but clothes styles, the way people view life, family and friends and even yourself.
In Rise and Shine Shannon is newly married has a diving accident and doesn’t wake up for 10 years. During those 10 years her husband faithfully waits for her, but Cancer hits him.
She wakes up and has to face so many things at once. How does she handle everything? Will she ever be happy again? What of the doctor that has taken care of her for that long?
A very interesting concept and really sweet ending. Highly recommend Rise and Shine. Sandra D. Bricker is an excellent author.

Called for Life by Kent & Amber Brantly with David Thomas A Review

ABOUT CALLED FOR LIFE
“Kent, bud. We got your test result.  And I’m really sorry to tell you that it is positive for Ebola.”

Dr. Kent and Amber Brantly moved with their children to war-torn Liberia in the fall of 2013 to provide medical care for people in great need—to help replace hopelessness with hope. When, less than a year later, Kent contracted the deadly Ebola virus, hope became what he and Amber needed too.

When Kent received the diagnosis, he was already alone and in quarantine in the Brantly home in Liberia. Amber and the children had left just days earlier on a trip to the United States. Kent’s personal battle against the horrific Ebola began, and as thousands of people worldwide prayed for his life, a miraculous series of events unfolded.

Called for Life tells the riveting inside story of Kent and Amber’s call to serve their neighbors, as well as Kent’s fight for life with Ebola and Amber’s’ struggle to support him from half-a-world away. Most significantly, Called for Life reminds us of the risk, the honor, and the joy to be known when God and others are served without reservation.

“Dr. Kent Brantly is responsible for one of the worst weeks of my life. When I told
him that, he smiled and said, ‘It wasn’t that great for me either!’ But Kent gives
God the credit for saving his life and surviving the deadly Ebola virus that infected
him while serving others in the name of Jesus. Dr. Brantly and his wife, Amber,
went obediently to Liberia to serve with Samaritan’s Purse as medical missionaries,
and were the recipients of prayers from around the world as they battled an attack
that threatened their future. The world watched as Kent was successfully trans ported back to the United States from Africa. International media outlets captured
his every step as he walked from the ambulance into Atlanta’s Emory University
Hospital, where he found physical restoration—a miracle from God. You will be
riveted by this extraordinary couple who are called for life to serve the Lord Jesus
Christ—the Great Physician!”  —Franklin Graham, president and CEO, Samaritan’s Purse

MY REVIEW
Called for Life, the true story of the Ebola epidemic and how Kent Brantly got it and how he recovered.
This is a very interesting book and I’m so glad I got to review it.
You will read how Kent and Amber met, how they came to live in Liberia and the many things they went through with other contacted Ebola and then the struggle Kent had with Ebola. It’s just amazing how God spared his life.
We really don’t realize all of the hardships other countries face. They don’t have the medical advances Americans have, they don’t have the simple and standard medical equipment needed to run a hospital. Like the simple plastic tubing they use to put in the nose to give oxygen to patients, the hospital only had three, where in America they use them one time and throw them away. Also not many drugs to treat the sick and many, many other supplies.
Kent made sure everyone suited up properly and didn’t come in contact with the sick they suspected had Ebola.
The Lord really watched out for Kent’s family. They were all scheduled to go back to the states to go to a family wedding, but Kent had to stay for a short time. Amber and the children never came in contact with him when he got Ebola.
This is a moving, spirit filled, awesome story of how a man follows Jesus even when things go wrong and even when he is so close to death.
Every bit of this book is spectacular and full of inspiration. I highly recommend it.

MY REVIEW
When Calls the Heart-Follow your Heart is the last episode of the second season and oh what a way to end it. Now I’m just sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the Christmas special and season three to start.
So many exciting things happened in Follow your Heart. Of course we know Jack and Elizabeth had a big argument on the last episode and they aren’t talking to much.
Jack is still trying to get all of the people in the counterfeit ring, almost gets shot in this episode.
Julie misses Tom and her family doesn’t try to understand, they just want her to move on with  her life without Tom.
Abigail and Pastor Frank and getting to be closer friends, but she finds out something that makes her rethink her ideas of him.
To top all of that off Elizabeth accidentally lets Rip out of Jack’s office during a thunderstorm and he runs away. So Jack and Elizabeth are off to find him in a cave and that’s when love and disaster strikes.
Love, love, love this series and this ending episode just has me wanting to see more and more. Highly recommended for the whole family. Very good viewing for all members of your household.

MY REVIEW
This is the first time I’ve read a book by T.K. Chapin and it won’t be the last. I was fully involved in the story before the first chapter was over. It was so well written that it made you think it was a true story.
Really did love the novel.  Cole and Megan made reading the book very, very easy. I really came to like Cole and his wanting to get closer to the Lord and how he forgave and forgot what his wife did. How he wanted to become a better husband and father. Very interesting and I love the fire scenes where rescues were done. Also enjoyed this novel Amongst the Flames because like in life not only good things happen. We have heartaches, losses and disappointment, but God is always there and sees us through. Highly recommend this book. Very interesting indeed. Fantastic author.
