Thin Ice by Irene Hannon A Review

ABOUT THIN ICE
After losing her parents in a car accident and her sister to a house fire, Christy Reed has been mired in grief. Life is finally starting to feel normal again when an envelope arrives in the mail--addressed in her sister's handwriting. And the note inside claims she is still alive.

FBI Special Agent Lance McGregor, a former Delta Force operator, is assigned to reopen the case, but he's coming up with more questions than answers. If Ginny Reed is still alive--who is the woman buried in her grave? Where is Ginny? And is Christy a pawn in a twisted cat-and-mouse game--or the target of a sinister plot? As he digs deeper, one thing becomes clear: whoever is behind the bizarre ruse has a deadly agenda.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Irene Hannon is a bestselling, award-winning author who took the publishing world by storm at the tender age of 10 with a sparkling piece of fiction that received national attention.

Okay…maybe that’s a slight exaggeration. But she was one of the honorees in a complete-the-story contest conducted by a national children’s magazine. And she likes to think of that as her “official” fiction-writing debut!

Since then, she has written more than 50 romantic suspense and contemporary romance/women’s fiction novels. She is a seven-time finalist for and three-time winner of the RITA award—the “Oscar” of romance fiction—and a member of the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame. Her books have also won a Daphne du Maurier award, two Carol awards, three HOLT Medallions, a National Readers’ Choice award, a Retailers Choice award, two Booksellers’ Best awards and two Reviewers’ Choice awards from RT Book Reviews magazine. One of her novels was also named by Booklist as a top 10 inspirational fiction books of 2011. In addition, she is a two-time Christy award finalist.

Irene, who holds a B.A. in psychology and an M.A. in journalism, juggled two careers for many years until she gave up her executive corporate communications position with a Fortune 500 company to write full. She is happy to say she has no regrets!

In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, gardening and singing.  A trained vocalist, she has sung the leading role in numerous musicals, including “South Pacific,” “Brigadoon,” “Oklahoma” “The King and I” and “Anything Goes.” She is also a soloist at her church.

When not otherwise occupied, Irene and her husband enjoy traveling, Saturday mornings at their favorite coffee shop and spending time with family. They make their home in Missouri.

MY REVIEW
  Thin Ice by Irene Hannon is just an amazing book. It is book two in the Men of Valor series.  In this book Christy is living through so  many horrific events. Her parents die in a car accident, her sister house burns down with her in it, then she gets a note in her sisters handwriting and it is a kidnapping with a picture to prove it. The kidnapper tells her not to go to the police, but Christy goes to the FBI. That is where she meets Lance. She doesn’t want the kidnapper to know she went to the FBI, so they pretend to be good friends.
  This book is really spell-binding and I just devoured it. Irene knows how to write books full of suspense. She will keep you reading well into the night. If you don’t read any other book this year, you should read Thin Ice. What an mind-boggling novel.
  In Thin Ice Irene Hannon teaches us no matter what happens having Jesus in your life helps in the most trying circumstances. Also tells us to never give up.
  The Men of Valor series is about three brothers and Thin Ice focus in on the middle brother, but we hear from the oldest brother Mac who’s story was in book one Buried Secrets. Book three will be about Finn the youngest. I just love Irene Hannon’s books. She is so talented and you won’t regret reading her novels. Highly recommended.

Taken by Dee Henderson A REVIEW

ABOUT TAKEN
Abducted at the age of sixteen and coerced into assisting the Jacoby crime family, Shannon Bliss has finally found a way out. She desperately wants to resume some semblance of normal life, but she also knows she has some unfinished business to attend to. She has enough evidence to put her captors behind bars for a very long time.

When Shannon contacts private investigator and former cop Matthew Dane to help her navigate her reentry into society, she quickly discovers that gaining her freedom doesn't mean her troubles are over. For one thing, her brother is the leading candidate in the race for Illinois governor, and news of her escape will create a media frenzy. For another, the ransom her family reportedly paid years earlier appears to have been a scam; no one knows what happened to the money. And then there's the fact that Shannon's escape involved faking her own death. If the Jacoby family learns she is still alive, they'll stop at nothing to silence her.

If justice is to be done, and if Shannon's life is ever to get on track again, Matthew will need to discover exactly what happened to her--even if it means stirring up a hornet's nest of secrets.

MY REVIEW
  I love, love, love books by Dee Henderson and this one Taken is just fabulous. The book Taken isn’t out until April 28th, but it is well worth waiting for. I was grabbed from the first page of this book and know you will be also.
  It tells the story of Shannon Bliss who was kidnapped when she was 16 and had to live with the kidnappers until she escaped many, many years later. Shannon reads about a retired police officer that had his daughter kidnapped, but made it home so she went to him for help. Matthew helps her do the things she needs while providing her with safety and security.
  Shannon knows a lot about the kidnappers and where they meet and where they hid the treasures that they steal. She will help the police, but only at her time and the place she desires. Shannon has her head on and makes a lot of lists. She has a long journey to get back to normal life. Many tears are shed and heartaches shared.
  Shannon made a list of the 5 things she wants most out of life. Get her GED, have a career that will support her, get married, have children, but the last one we only know the first half of. So I’m looking forward to book two to find out the last part of her last wish on the list.
This book Taken by Dee Henderson, book one in the Men of Valor series is superb and very, very suspenseful, but full of love, tenderness and compassion. Highly recommended.

MY REVIEW
  Buried Secrets by Irene Hannon is one fantastic suspenseful book. It is full of twists, turns and surprises that will keep you reading way into the night.
  I like how one small bit of evidence in a murder case can turn everything around. Even when criminals try to remove all traces of them being there usually it is impossible.
   Lisa and Mac meet when they both are assigned to a skeleton that was dug up from over 20 years ago. What can they learn from something that old?
  Lisa and Mac both move to a smaller area to get out of the way of big city crime, but it seems to follow them. They also are looking for a chance to settle down to marry someone and start a family. Can they find that with each other?
  You also learn about Mac’s two brothers who are in high profile/dangerous jobs. I have a feeling the next books in the series will be about them.
   Buried Secrets is full of suspense, action, family and love. You will love this wonderful first book in the series Men of Valor. Highly recommended.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Shirlee McCoy has always loved making up stories. As a child she daydreamed elaborate tales in which she was the heroine — gutsy, strong and invincible. Though she soon grew out of her superhero fantasies, her love for storytelling never diminished.

Shirlee knew early that she wanted to write inspirational fiction and began writing her first novel when she was a teenager. Still, it wasn't until her third son was born that she truly began pursuing her dream of being published. Three years later she sold her first book.

Now a busy mother of four, Shirlee is a homeschool mom by day and an inspirational author by night. She and her husband and children live in Maryland and share their home with a dog and a guinea pig.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Margaret has been writing for over 35 years. She started writing in the late 1970s
When she went away to college, she met her husband, Mike, to whom she has been married for over 40 years. He is her support and her best friend. She has always felt she was the luckiest woman the day she bumped into him on campus.
Besides teaching and writing, she is also a mother of one. Her son, Shaun.
When she isn't working, she loves to read, travel, and go to lunch and a movie with a friend.
Sharon Dunn
In addition to her new Bargain Hunters mysteries Sharon is the author of the Ruby Taylor mysteries. Book Two in the series, Sassy Cinderella and the Valiant Vigilante won the Book of the Year from American Christian Fiction writers. Her books which have been called humorous whodunits have received praise for their honest portrayal of the Christian journey. Sharon lives with 3 kids, 3 cats, and her hubby of 20 years.
MY REVIEW
  The Texas K-9 Unit series is just fantastic and full of life, adventure and love.  I’m just going to comment on the first book in this series Tracking Justice by Shirlee McCoy, but the other two are just as fantastic as the first one.
  Tracking Justice starts right off with action when a woman finds her son missing from his bed and she won’t let the trackers go alone without her. She wants to help look for her son and be there for him.
  In Tracking Justice the little boy, Brady sees a crime taking place next door so the criminals kidnap him to keep him quiet. He gives the police clues, but doesn’t feel safe unless  Austin and his dog Justice [the ones who found him] are there.
  Brady’s mom, Eva works hard to give Brady a safe, secure place to live and being a single parent makes it much harder.
   The K-9 units are very dedicated and very serious about there jobs. They are always looking for ways to make things better in their units and for the victims.
  I really love these books and know you will also. Buy the 3 book set, because one book leads into the other and they are priceless. Highly recommended.
MY REVIEW
  I just loved reading Deceived by Irene Hannon. It is a fascinating book that is full of adventure and suspense. From the very first page to the last I was spell bound.
  I love the character Kate and the love she had for her family that she lost and the great length she goes to see if what really happened on the fateful day her husband and son died. She is a strong, determined woman.
  Also Connor the private investigator is also very unwavering in finding the truth. It is very interesting to find out the many steps they had to take to find out if the mystery child is really her son or not.
  Deceived is a very emotional story that will grab you and you will hang on  for the ride.
   Find out in this book if Kate finds what she is looking for. What Connor’s personal life was like before and how they work together in one of the most important cases of all.
  I highly recommend this wonderful book. Very much a book that you will love to read again and again.
MY REVIEW
  Nowhere to Turn by Lynette Eason is a very excellent suspenseful novel. It is book 2 in the Hidden Identity series, but works really well as a stand-alone book.
  From the very first page I was hooked and couldn’t wait until I could read every single page. Just when I thought one problem was solved another one showed up.
  I did realize pretty soon how Danielle was being found at all of the safe houses, but that didn’t take the suspense and excellent story away.
  Danielle and Simon, her son were exceptional characters as was Adam. I think the characters were well thought out and the describing of the scenes and action were excellent. I highly recommend Nowhere to Turn by Lynette Eason.
MY REVIEW
Sincerely Yours is a book with 4 stories in it by 4 different authors. The authors are Jane Kirkpatrick, Amanda Cabot, Laurie Alice Eakes, and Ann Shorey.
  I like books that have several stories in them. You may find a new author that you love or if you don’t like one of them the story isn’t long.
  The stories in this book are titled Moonlight Promise by Laurie Alice Eakes. This one I didn’t care much for. The characters weren’t that likable and it seemed to drag in places.
 The next one was called Lessons in Love by Ann Shorey.  Another one I didn’t care much for because it seemed silly. Why would someone try to hide she is a woman just so she could write.
  One Little Word by Amanda Cabot was one well written and one I enjoyed. I liked it because the characters didn’t let money or family inheritance get in the way of making them happy.
  I just loved A Saving Grace by Jane Kirkpatrick. This is a story that I wish would be a lot longer, because it was so good. Jane knows how to write a romantic/suspenseful story that keeps your interest.
  Overall this book is well worth reading and keeping. I do recommend it.
Unspoken by Dee Henderson A REVIEW
ABOUT UNSPOKEN
Charlotte Graham is at the center of the most famous kidnapping in Chicago history.
The task force of FBI and local cops found her two abductors, killed them, rescued her, but it took four very long years. The fact she was found less than three miles from her home, had been there the entire time, haunts them. She's changed her identity, found a profession she loves, and rebuilt her life.
She's never said a word--to the cops, to her doctors, to family--about those four years.
A family legacy has brought her back to Chicago where a reporter is writing a book about the kidnapping. The cops who worked the case are cooperating with him. Her options are limited: Hope the reporter doesn't find the full truth, or break her silence about what happened. And her silence is what has protected her family for years.
Bryce Bishop doesn't know her past, he only knows she has coins to sell from her grandfather's estate--and that the FBI director for the Chicago office made the introduction. The more he gets to know Charlotte, the more interested he becomes, an interest encouraged by those closest to her. But nothing else is working in his favor--she's decided she is single for life, she struggles with her faith, and she's willing to forego a huge inheritance to keep her privacy. She's not giving him much of an opening to work with.
Charlotte wants to trust him. She needs to tell him what happened. Because a crime cops thought was solved, has only opened another chapter...
MY REVIEW
  Unspoken by Dee Henderson isn’t one of my favorite books. I LOVE the O’Malley series and it is so well written. Unspoken started our really slow. It talks a lot about Bryce’s coin business and the coins Charlotte sells him. It is very boring for people who don’t know or like coins. It really took a lot to get into this book.
  I love how well Bryce treated and took care of Charlotte. He married her even though he didn’t love her, because he thought it was the right thing. I really don’t see many people if any who would marry someone just to help them.
  Charlotte inherits a lot of money and doesn’t want it and wants someone else to help her give it away.
  This was a really long story and I did enjoy the last part. I like how tender and loving Bryce is to Charlotte even though I don’t think a person would be without loving them.
This was an O.K. book, but if you want to read some fantastic books of Dee’s read her earlier books.
She and her husband reside in Maryland with their two teenage daughters. Visit her web site at www.DaniPettrey.com!
MY REVIEW
  This is the third book in the Alaskan Courage series by Dani Pettrey and I just love it. This series is full of adventure, suspense, intrigue, love and forgiveness and Stranded is another wonderful addition to this series.
   Darcy and Gage met in book two of this series Shattered and they didn’t get along, but had an attraction to each other. After book two they both went their  separate ways and tried to forget each other, but God had other plans. They were dropped into each other lives again.
  This is a neat story about being on a cruise ship, but taking side trips when the ship was docked at different ports. Gage and his family were in charge of the side trips. Darcy was on board because a friend of hers asked her to come and help find out why women disappeared off of the ship and never were found. Then Darcy’s friend disappears and the danger begins.
  I love all of the mystery and suspense of this book. It is a book that is hard to put down and you can’t wait to find out how it ends, but at the same time don’t want it to end.
  It is also full of tenderness, love and forgiveness. Really an excellent book. Highly recommended.
Trapped by Irene Hannon A REVIEW
When librarian Laura Griffith's sixteen-year-old sister disappears on a frigid February day, leaving only a brief note behind, Laura resolves to do whatever it takes to track down the runaway teen. That includes recruiting ATF agent turned PI James "Dev" Devlin to help. But the deeper he digs, the more he begins to suspect that something sinister is at work in the girl's disappearance. And the closer he gets to uncovering the truth, the clearer it becomes that the situation isn't just dangerous--it's deadly.
Chilling and at times terrifying, Trapped is the latest thrilling read from Irene Hannon, the queen of romantic suspense. Hannon outdoes herself with this fast-paced tale of fear, deception, and just the right dose of romance.
MY REVIEW
  Trapped by Irene Hannon is book two in A Private Justice series.  I really enjoyed this book. It is full of mystery and intrigue which I love in a novel. The characters are very likable and interesting.
   The title Trapped and front cover are excellent. They really make the story more alive.  Darcy is my favorite character in Trapped, because she doesn’t give up. She keeps trying to get out of a horrible situation. Darcy also learns lessons that we all need to learn, be happy and thankful with what you have. You could always be in a much worse situation.
  Laura is also an interesting person because she doesn’t want to and won’t give up on her sister. She keeps going and is a sweet person whom is only doing what she knows to do.
  Dev is someone who cares and tries to find the truth and has many ways to do it.
  Mark is the villain and makes a fantastic one. He has been through so much in his life from the beginning, but he lets it control him and he tries to make everyone in his life perfect. He is very interesting also. So this book has many characters who are exciting and fascinating.
  I recommend this book and think you will love it because it is so gripping.
MY REVIEW
  WHEN A SECRET KILLS by Lynette Eason is an exciting inspirational Romantic Suspense. #3 and final in the spine tingling "Deadly Reunions" series, but can be read as a stand alone.
  I love reading books that Lynette Eason has written. She has a great talent for spine-tingling suspenseful reads. She also has the right romantic blend to each book to give it sweetness and tenderness.
  When a Secret Kills is really fantastic. I’ve really wanted to know how the whole thing came about in the first two books and When A Secret Kills gives us all of the answers.
  The ending was quite a surprise and I really loved the twists, turns and suspense for book three. I highly recommend this book and know you will love it and want to put it on your keeper shelf.
MY REVIEW
  I enjoyed reading Shattered by DanI Pettrey. It is book two in the Alaskan Courage series. The characters, places and events of this book are so well described. I enjoyed the first book in this series and will enjoy the other/others.
  I love the large McKenna family and really like Piper and Landon’s love story. It was largely the love story with the suspense and murder story as a second story.
   I really enjoy Christian books, but this one had too much Sexual content. I think Ms. Pettrey should be careful of the things she writes.
  This is a nice suspenseful book and I was very surprised at the ending and why the killer did what he did. It was a plot twister and you thought the killer was after the victim for one thing, but it turns out it was a completely different reason.
Very interesting and delightful read. Recommend it for fast, easy reading.
MY REVIEW
  I really liked The Survivor by DiAnn Mills. I always try to find out who the killer is before the book gets too far along, but couldn’t with this book. It was well hidden and full of surprise and suspense.
  I liked the love story between Tigo and Kariss. It was sweet and an inspiration. They both wanted it to work out between them, but so much baggage and things standing in the way.
  I didn’t much care for Dr. Amy Garrett and her brother. They both seemed full of lies and Amy really seemed fake at times.
  This is book two in the Houston series. I never read book one and was able to read The Survivor without feeling a lot was missing because I didn’t read book one. So The Survivor can be read as a stand alone book.
   I highly recommend The Survivor as a book to read and enjoy. Full of action and suspense and will keep you guessing. I really enjoyed it.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dee Henderson is the bestselling, award-winning author of 15 previous novels, including the acclaimed O’MALLEY series and UNCOMMON HEROES series. She is a lifelong resident of Illinois.
MY REVIEW
  I love anything and everything from Dee Henderson. This book Full Disclosure is very good, but not Dee’s best work.
  I love how Paul really wants to get married and knows it right away. Ann really holds back from relationships except for friendship. She really doesn’t like to fail in anything so she would rather not try in marriage.
  One thing I didn’t care for in this book was how Dee has Ann to be the writer of the O’Malley series. I don’t think it fits in with the story very well.
Also Ann seems to be able to do everything and know everyone, but doesn’t want to trust herself in a serious relationship.
  I love all of the police work and crime scenes that Ann and Paul work on. Dee writes really great crime/mystery stories.
  I feel the romance doesn’t work well in this story, because it doesn’t seem to be much of it in the book. Also Ann is to perfect, but very flawed. She believes in the Lord, but rarely does she trust Him to help her with a serious relationship.
  Paul is just a wonderful character and gives in to Ann’s every whim and I don’t believe that’s possible in a real relationship. Both sides need to give or it doesn’t work.
  Even though I’m not thrilled about every part of the story I still really recommend it. The lady killer part is very interesting.
ABOUT LYNNETTE BONNER
Born and raised in Malawi, Africa. Lynnette Bonner spent the first years of her life reveling in warm equatorial sunshine and the late evening duets of cicadas and hyenas. The year she turned eight she was off to Rift Valley Academy, a boarding school in Kenya where she spent many joy-filled years, and graduated in 1990.
That fall, she traded to a new duet--one of traffic and rain--when she moved to Kirkland, Washington to attend Northwest University. It was there that she met her husband and a few years later they moved to the small town of Pierce, Idaho.
During the time they lived in Idaho, while studying the history of their little town, Lynnette was inspired to begin the Shepherd's Heart Series with Rocky Mountain Oasis.
Marty and Lynnette have four children, and currently live in Washington where Marty pastors a church.
MY REVIEW
  This is the second book in The Shepherd’s Heart series and after reading it I want to read the first book and any that come after it. High Desert Haven is an excellent book full of love, mystery, intrigue, death and happiness. I will be adding High Desert Haven to my favorite books for 2012 and giving it a 5-star rating.
  To me Nicki was a very unselfish, precious follower of Jesus in this fantastic book. In every page from the first to the last Nicki puts her family, her husband, son and friends ahead of herself. After her husband dies even though she only married him to help her family and didn’t really love him she cared deeply for him and wanted to keep his ranch going for their son.
  When the larger ranches tried pushing her off her ranch and the other smaller ranches she didn’t give in. Nicki ran an ad for a ranch foreman because she didn’t know anything about ranches. Then Jason, a new Christian, comes and things start happening not all for the good, but he doesn’t want Nicki to give up without a fight even when the bank calls in her loan. How will she make it? Will she find how God wants her to survive? Will Nicki give in  to pressures to sell and marry the next door rancher or will her heart and head win out and do the right thing?
  I really love this book and so glad I read it. Lynnette is such a brilliant author, I’m glad I found her writing because she is one of my new favorites. So I HIGHLY recommend this book High Desert Haven.
