Hiding Places by Erin Healy A Review

ABOUT HIDING PLACES
The Harrison lodge is full of hiding places where young Kate can discover all the secrets no one wants her to know.

Eleven-year-old Kate keeps her knowledge to herself—one sister’s stash of marijuana, the other’s petty cash pilfering, her grandfather’s contraband candy bars. She protects her mother and Gran, too, screening out critical comments from the hotel suggestions box. But suddenly the stakes are raised; her grandfather’s best friend is murdered the day after Kate heard the two men arguing.

At the same time, far from the quiet mountain resort, a homeless man sees a robbery gone wrong . . . a gang member seeks revenge for the death of his son . . . and a boy chooses the worst time to wield spray paint on a store window. In a strange and spiraling sequence of events, their disparate worlds collide at Harrison Lodge.

Kate offers shelter to one of them, unaware of the terrible consequences to the family she loves. But people can hide in all kinds of ways, sometimes even in plain sight . . . and some secrets are just waiting to be exposed.

MY REVIEW
Hiding Places by Erin Healy is an excellent book. I’ve read many of Erin’s books and have enjoyed them all.
Eleven-year-old Kate is a girl who loves being a spy. She loves her family especially her grandfather. In this book you read about the adventures of Kate and how sometimes her family doesn’t even see her or care where she is or what she does.
Hiding Places shows that families have so many secrets and things not even all of the family knows about.
Kate hears a cat meowing in the middle of the night and goes out to see what it is. She comes across a young man who has had a motorcycle accident. She wants to go for help, but he won’t let her. He doesn’t want to go to the doctor either, even though he has broken his leg. So Kate and the young man struggle back to her house, but Kate knows about secret panels and rooms. So Kate helps to hide him.
The young man is helping with a robbery when a boy gets in the way and they kidnap him to escape.  Later he is killed, but by whom.
In the little town where Kate lives there has been a murder now Charlie is hurt and hiding from the men who think he killed the boy. So very, very suspenseful, full of intrigue and mystery.
I love the secret panels and hiding places. Highly recommend this fascinating book.

MY REVIEW
The Blender Girl Smoothies is an excellent book. The recipes, ingredients and photos are very professional.
Each recipe of course tells you the ingredients and also what can go with this smoothie to boost it even more. Each one is very healthy and good, but with the extra boost it is even more so.
Above the recipe Tess Masters tells you what the smoothie will help you with and gives you a little extra advice to help with your health and well being. Also you will find at the end of the recipe the nutritional facts that we all like to know.
If I didn’t think the recipes were so delicious sounding the pictures would win me over. Crisp, clear and may I say delicious looking pictures.
You will find smoothie recipes for your immunity, weight loss, detoxifying, energizing and protein.
The last chapter is called the Smoothie Pantry. It tells you all about tons and tons of fruits, vegetables that you can use to make nutritious and delicious smoothies.
Love this book and know you will also. A recipe book that you will love and your body will thank you for it. Highly recommended.

When Jack learns that the "producers", have taken Rosemary in the opposite direction, for New York, he races after them to rescue her… a gamble that ends up being the talk of the town when they spend a night together

MY REVIEW
Another When Calls the Heart is out on DVD. This one is called Heart and Soul. If you’ve never watched these movies on the Hallmark channel or seen any of the former DVDs now would be an excellent time to start.  These shows are inspired by the author Janette Oke. Whom we all love.
In Heart and Soul while Jack and Elizabeth are away from each other many things happen. Elizabeth is staying with her family until her mother gets better and Jack has to get back to Hope Valley for his Mountie duties.
Elizabeth reacquaints herself with her old friend Charles and Jack looks out for Rosemary as she is kidnapped by so called Producers.
Also the part I really liked is when Abigail goes to Elizabeth’s home to try and find her daughter-in-law.  Abigail wonders why she hasn’t written or why she wouldn’t stay with her. Many secrets and relationships are changing and not all in a positive way. I really love the When Calls the Heart series and Heart and Soul is fantastic.  Highly recommend this series. You will love owning these DVDs.

Uncommon DVD

ABOUT UNCOMMON

What do we really know about religious liberties in public schools? Can students pray? Can they have a bible study? Can they mention God or even wear a Christian themed t-shirt? The prayer in public school debate has caused a firestorm in the past; but with this film Liberty Counsel hopes to set the record straight.

Those who seek to indoctrinate our kids with the message that God is irrelevant and truth is subjective have had a monopoly for too long in our schools because the Supreme Court fabricated the idea that there is a wall of separation between church and state.

When the students of Rosewood High School lose their theater, music and dance departments due to budgets cuts, they create their own. Struggling to find the right script, music & choreography the students get advice from an uncommon source; the Bible! Each student becomes uniquely influenced as they discover that God takes them personally. Equipped with unique talents, they bond together to prepare the perfect production by exploring the diversity of parables taught in the Bible.

Fighting overwhelming challenges, the teens fight against political correctness to defend their privilege to worship, meet and perform.

Will months of constant bullying by the establishment defeat the production and dismantle their faith?

Armed with expert legal counsel and unexpected help from Christian music’s finest, these teens realize what it means to be…UNCOMMON!

Jason Campbell Films

FACTS ABOUT THE FILMING OF UNCOMMON
The film stars Erik Estrada. Estrada is best known for his leading role in the television series ChiP’s.  Estrada plays the role of a heroic high school janitor that volunteers to help the students salvage their drama and music programs.

Estrada stared with Pat Boone in the first Christian film ever widely produced The Cross and the Switchblade in 1970.

Estrada will attend over 200 church screenings across America in order to show this film to help better educate church leaders, parents and teens on religious liberties in public education.

The film features famed Christian musician and 2012 Dove Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Grammy Award Winner Jason Crabb.

The lead teenage role was played by actor Ben Davies; from the Christian blockbuster film Courageous.  Davies was just recently voted in the top-ten of Christian actors.

The film stars Irma P. Hall who has appeared in numerous films and television shows since the 1970s. She is best known for playing matriarchal figures in the films A Family Thing, Soul Food and The Ladykillers.

The film was created by Liberty Counsel; Liberty Counsel is an international nonprofit, litigation, education, and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and the family since 1989, by providing pro bono assistance and representation on these and related topics.

Thomas Road Baptist Church, Pastored by Jonathon Falwell in Lynchburg, Virginia was the host church for the film.

The subject matter relating to this film is timely, desirable and portrayed appropriately and suitably for teens and pre-teen age children.

Special music was developed for the film including several hip-hop and Latino-style music compositions.  Estrada states, “Uncommon will be a great tool to equip young people with the truth. It's a movie that will make you laugh, cry, and get up and dance!”

Uncommon will provide parent and youth video study curricula with powerful resources to help educate schools, families and communities on the subject of school prayer and religious liberties.

The film used a total of 334 volunteers and was shot over a period of 30 days, and five months of post-production.

The film Uncommon has been made into an actual theatrical production available for FREE to students to perform in their church, school or community center.  Erik Estrada has agreed to be in attendance for the first 10 scheduled performances.

MY REVIEW
Uncommon starring Ben Davies, Erik Estrada, Jason Crabb and Courtney Buck is a very good DVD. It lets us know that being a Christian doesn’t mean that we don’t have rights. A story of love, faith, loss and friends, but most of all that God is with us through it all.
Uncommon starts out with Aaron losing his brother in a school shooting and moving to a different school. He then reads some of his brothers writing and learns his brother wanted to help him draw closer to God and Chris (Aaron’s brother) wanted to make a difference in school. So Aaron wants to fulfill his brothers wishes. Aaron then starts a Bible study at school and with the help of the janitor he helps a group of drama students put a play together. Aaron is Ben Davies who starred in Courageous and the janitor is Erik Estrada who starred in the hit T.V. series Chips. You will find other amazing facts about the DVD in the above section.
I like this movie for the theme and for the acting of Ben Davies, Erik Estrada and Irma P. Hall. Some of the other actors/actresses weren’t that great. I love the way Liberty Counsel  shows that we all have rights and being a Christian and an American gives us certain rights also.
Very good DVD. When it comes out this will be an excellent DVD to add to your collection or to your church library. Recommended.

MY REVIEW
7 Secrets to an Awesome Marriage by Dr. Kim Kimberling is such a wonderful book on how to keep your marriage from failing. He gives you 7 different things to do that aren’t hard or way out there, but very practial and very effective to keep you marriage alive the way God wants it to be.
This marriage book closely  follows how God wants our marriages to be.
I was very amazed and helped with things that are simple, but very relative to a relationship.
Without God’s help and you putting Him first and following certain guidelines your marriage will fail or be just a relationship of two people living together.
I’m so taken with this book and these guidelines that I’m buying copies for all of my children. It is an AWESOME book. This is my favorite book of the year. I highly recommend it. A must have for all marriages.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I'm a retired physician, who got into non-medical writing after the death of my first wife with my book, THE TENDER SCAR: LIFE AFTER THE DEATH OF A SPOUSE. I'm gratified that it continues to help those who have lost a loved one.

From that point, I moved into writing fiction. Thus far I've had seven novels of medical suspense published: CODE BLUE, MEDICAL ERROR, DIAGNOSIS DEATH, and LETHAL REMEDY were the first four. The second and third books listed were named finalists for the ACFW Carol Award and Romantic Times' Best Inspirational Novel respectively, and LETHAL REMEDY won the Selah Award.

Then came STRESS TEST (also a finalist for Romantic Times' Best Inspirational Novel). My next book, released in October, 2013 by Thomas Nelson Publishers, was HEART FAILURE. The most recent is CRITICAL CONDITION, which was released in April, 2014.

I'm pleased to announce that FATAL TRAUMA will be published on May 19 of this year, with more to follow. Further, I've just self-published a Christian fiction novella, RX MURDER, which is currently available for Kindle.

I am a past Vice-President of the American Christian Fiction Writers and a proud member of the International Thriller Writers and the International Crime Writers Association.

When I'm not writing, I'm busy being a husband and grandfather, working on my golf game, and doing the hundred-and-one other things that retired people do. I'm busier now than I ever was while in practice--and loving it

MY REVIEW
One of my favorite genres is Medical Mystery and Fatal Trauma by Richard L. Mabry, M.D. is just that. He did such an excellent job with Fatal Trauma that it is extremely interesting to read.
This book has it all drug cartel, malpractice lawsuits, murder accusation with just enough of romance to make it one of the best books I have read.
Dr. Mark Baker and Nurse Kelly Atkinson were out a few times and had an enjoyable time, but neither of them were serious until they were in a hostage/threatening situation. After they went through that they found out how much they cared for each other.
Mix that up with murder and mayhem and you are sure to have a very interesting book.
I was very surprised at the ending and thought it ended just right.
I highly recommend Fatal Trauma by Richard L. Mabry, M.D. and any of his other books. Fantastic author.

MY REVIEW
I haven’t read any books by Colleen Coble for awhile and had forgotten what an excellent author she is. Reading one of her books will keep you reading late into the night and on the edge of your seat.
I just finished The Inn at Ocean's Edge and all I can say is WOW, what a great story.
I love the characters, story line and every single thing about it. Just when I think I have the story figured out Colleen throws up another road block. She is an amazing author.
Claire and Luke are so very different, but also so very much alike. They meet quite by chance and the things that link them together are remarkable. His mother was killed and they think Claire was there and witnessed it when she was only 4. She doesn’t remember anything, but that was 20 some years ago.
Will Claire remember, will Luke keep his distance, because he isn’t in the same class as Claire? Will they find the killer who is after Claire now before he succeeds?
Love this book and give it 5-stars plus more if I could. Highly recommended book. A must read.

Ms. Price has advanced degrees in Communication (MA), Marketing (MBA), and Educational Leadership (A.B.D.).
Ms. Price was a former full-time college professor. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, she now writes full-time.

MY REVIEW
I did not like The Matchmaker by Sarah Price at all. It’s the retelling of Emma by Jane Austen. I have watched the real Emma many times and love it, but the retelling in an Amish setting just doesn’t work.
For one thing the Amish wouldn’t be prideful and trying to get their way the way Emma does in this story. The characters and story line were not well done. It was a book that was really lacking in many areas.
I really don’t like the retelling of classics because it doesn’t show any talent of the author. All they have to do is copy the story and put in a few words of their own. They don’t figure out the plot or story line at all. It has already been done.
So I do not recommend this book. I haven’t read any other books by Sarah Price and may not.

MY REVIEW
Catching Faith tells a story of a perfect family or so it seems. Everything is going so good for them, but then everything breaks lose and they find out how strong their faith really is.
What do you do when you child is caught drinking and is the star on the football team, your daughter is a straight A student and is so pressured she thinks of cheating on a final exam? Will you let it slid or do you bring it to the front? This DVD shows how having faith and doing what the Lord wants us to do is not always easy. You can either go the way of the crowd or do as Jesus wants us to do.
Really enjoyed this DVD because it lets us know that life isn’t always easy. We all have trials and temptations. No one is perfect.
A good DVD to show us how we should live, not just going through the emotions. Highly recommended.

The Bones Will Speak by Carrie Stuart Parks~A Review

ABOUT THE BONES WILL SPEAK
A killer with a penchant for torture has taken notice of forensics expert Gwen Marcey . . . and her daughter.

When Gwen Marcey’s dog comes home with a human skull and then leads her to a cabin in the woods near her Montana home, she realizes there’s a serial killer in their community. And when she finds a tortured young girl clinging to life on the cabin floor, she knows this killer is a lunatic.

Yet what unsettles Gwen most is that the victim looks uncannily like her daughter.

The search for the torturer leads back in time to a neo-Nazi bombing in Washington state—a bombing with only one connection to Montana: Gwen. The group has a race-not-grace model of salvation . . . and they’ve marked Gwen as a race traitor.

When it becomes clear that the killer has a score to settle, Gwen finds herself in a battle against time. She will have to use all of her forensic skills to find the killer before he can carry out his threat to destroy her—and the only family she has left.

MY REVIEW
The Bones Will Speak by Carrie Stuart Parks is a good novel with a super ending. The ending was very suspenseful and had me sitting on the edge of my seat.
The Bones Will Speak started off slow, but it wasn’t long before it started to get better. I’m glad I didn’t give up on this book.
I always try to guess who the criminal is in a book and usually can guess, but in The Bones Will Speak I was completely wrong. I really like a book where I can’t guess who the evil one is.
The ending really blew me away. It is a thriller for sure. I recommend this book if you love mysteries and thrillers. You will be well entertained.
