Skin by Ted Dekker A REVIEW

ABOUT SKIN
A freak storm has spawned three tornadoes that are bearing down on the town of Summerville.

Yet under the cover of the storm looms a much more ominous threat: A vindictive killer known as Red who's left a string of victims in his wake and is now bent on exacting his final revenge on the unsuspecting town.

But there is an enigma surrounding Red that the FBI is unwilling to admit-closely guarded secrets of something gone terribly wrong beneath the skin of Summerville. Secrets that will destroy far more than one small town.

Wendy Davidson is caught in the middle. She's a recovering cult survivor who takes refuge in Summerville on her way to visit her estranged mother. And with her, four strangers, any of whom could be the next victim . . . or the killer.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
TED DEKKER is a New York Times bestselling author of more than twenty novels with a total of more than 5 million books in print. He is known for thrillers that combine adrenaline-laced plots with incredible confrontations between good and evil.

MY REVIEW
Skin by Ted Dekker is a novel written in 2007, and I think it is just a fantastic book. I always enjoyed Ted’s books. They are always full of surprises with plenty of twists and turns. You never know where his books will lead you.
This book, Skin started with a horrible storm with caused three tornadoes in one place. With that put a killer that is quicker than the faster gun and much death and destruction and you have a book that is a winner.
Four people, all strangers, the local sheriff, Colt, Wendy, a recovering cult survivor, Carey and Nicole, a brother and sister are then joined by Pinkus and they are all fighting the killer Red.
The book explores the question what is true beauty. Red wants them to chose who is the ugliest to die. What makes a people ugly, looks, actions etc…  That’s why this book is called Skin.
You’ll be amazed at what this story is really about and how it plays out. This kind of novel is only for people who love strange stories and weird and unusual endings.
I will highly recommend this book to all of you weird people like me. Fantastic read!

When Calls the Heart review season 2-Giveaway 1 set of When Calls the Heart season 1

The giveaway consists of 1 set of When Calls The Heart Season 1 on DVD ($60 value!!)   These DVD’s were supplied by Word Films.

The series is inspired by Janette Oke’s bestselling book series about the Canadian West. “When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coalmining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a turn of the century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.

MY REVIEW
Season two of When Calls the Heart is something we all have looked forward to. I got the chance to watch the two hour special and I tell you I love it. It is full of love, surprises and danger, but so very, very good.
What we have all been looking forward to is the trial and many, many surprising things happen with that. Elizabeth is called home because her mother is ailing and Jack takes her. She fits in like she never left, but Jack doesn’t.
You will be astounded at all of the new things that happen and also rejoice at the old friends we made in season one and meet many new people who become friends in season two.
You don’t want to miss the opening of season two coming this Saturday on the Hallmark channel. Two hours of suspense, family, love and hope.  I highly recommend this fantastic show. I love it because the values are wholesome and it is just an exciting show.

MY REVIEW
The Rancher Takes a Bride by Brenda Minton is a really sweet book. I like the characters and settings very much.  The story line is excellent.
You follow Oregon {love that name} as she and her young daughter start over in a new town. You meet the friends they make. It all starts as Lilly {Oregon’s daughter} runs across the road to work at Duke’s place so she can buy a horse. Lilly gets hit and then the action takes place. You find out that Duke is her Dad and why Oregon never told him.
Duke and Oregon grew up with similar backgrounds where parents were missing or only thought of themselves and how that affected them all of their lives.
I think this novel tells us everyone wants love and someone to trust.  I recommend this book and the 5 others.

MY REVIEW
A Heart’s Disguise is book one in the Journey of the Heart series. This is the first of six novellas in the series, being released each month for the next six months. Very short books that can be read in one sitting easily.
I really enjoyed it, but it just seemed to get started and the book was over. Colleen Coble is an excellent author, I love her writing style. I think it would be better if you got the whole set at once and read them right together.
The story line and characters are well-developed. The action is truly captivating.
My favorite character so far is Sara. She seems so lost and alone in this first book and I know she thinks she made the right decision, but I think she should have thought through everything more.
I will recommend this book, but if you can order the whole set as it will give you a lot more enjoyment.

Taken by Dee Henderson A REVIEW

ABOUT TAKEN
Abducted at the age of sixteen and coerced into assisting the Jacoby crime family, Shannon Bliss has finally found a way out. She desperately wants to resume some semblance of normal life, but she also knows she has some unfinished business to attend to. She has enough evidence to put her captors behind bars for a very long time.

When Shannon contacts private investigator and former cop Matthew Dane to help her navigate her reentry into society, she quickly discovers that gaining her freedom doesn't mean her troubles are over. For one thing, her brother is the leading candidate in the race for Illinois governor, and news of her escape will create a media frenzy. For another, the ransom her family reportedly paid years earlier appears to have been a scam; no one knows what happened to the money. And then there's the fact that Shannon's escape involved faking her own death. If the Jacoby family learns she is still alive, they'll stop at nothing to silence her.

If justice is to be done, and if Shannon's life is ever to get on track again, Matthew will need to discover exactly what happened to her--even if it means stirring up a hornet's nest of secrets.

MY REVIEW
I love, love, love books by Dee Henderson and this one Taken is just fabulous. The book Taken isn’t out until April 28th, but it is well worth waiting for. I was grabbed from the first page of this book and know you will be also.
It tells the story of Shannon Bliss who was kidnapped when she was 16 and had to live with the kidnappers until she escaped many, many years later. Shannon reads about a retired police officer that had his daughter kidnapped, but made it home so she went to him for help. Matthew helps her do the things she needs while providing her with safety and security.
Shannon knows a lot about the kidnappers and where they meet and where they hid the treasures that they steal. She will help the police, but only at her time and the place she desires. Shannon has her head on and makes a lot of lists. She has a long journey to get back to normal life. Many tears are shed and heartaches shared.
Shannon made a list of the 5 things she wants most out of life. Get her GED, have a career that will support her, get married, have children, but the last one we only know the first half of. So I’m looking forward to book two to find out the last part of her last wish on the list.
This book Taken by Dee Henderson, book one in the Men of Valor series is superb and very, very suspenseful, but full of love, tenderness and compassion. Highly recommended.

MY REVIEW
Buried Secrets by Irene Hannon is one fantastic suspenseful book. It is full of twists, turns and surprises that will keep you reading way into the night.
I like how one small bit of evidence in a murder case can turn everything around. Even when criminals try to remove all traces of them being there usually it is impossible.
Lisa and Mac meet when they both are assigned to a skeleton that was dug up from over 20 years ago. What can they learn from something that old?
Lisa and Mac both move to a smaller area to get out of the way of big city crime, but it seems to follow them. They also are looking for a chance to settle down to marry someone and start a family. Can they find that with each other?
You also learn about Mac’s two brothers who are in high profile/dangerous jobs. I have a feeling the next books in the series will be about them.
Buried Secrets is full of suspense, action, family and love. You will love this wonderful first book in the series Men of Valor. Highly recommended.
