The Spoils of Eden {Book 1} The Dawn of Hawaii Series by Linda Lee Chaikin

The waves lap dangerously close to the abandoned baby – abandoned by the Molokai leper colony of the late 1800s.
That baby will be at the center of an alternately tense and bittersweet romantic struggle between Eden Derrington and Rafe Easton. Eden and Rafe are in love, but Baby Kip may very well endanger their future together.
It’s two generations after the on-fire missionaries have arrived on the Hawaiian Islands, and the descendants of those missionaries are drifting into complacency and materialism. The generational plots and subplots masterfully woven throughout this first in the “Dawn of Hawaii” trilogy will leave the reader yearning for the second and third books, coming in 2011 and 2012.

My Review
Years ago I read almost all of Linda Lee Chaikin’s books, but for some reason haven‘t read any for a long time. Really sorry I haven’t kept up with her, but will from now on.
“The Spoils of Eden” is book one in Linda Chaikin's newest series The Dawn of Hawaii. I can’t wait for the other two.
I just finished reading “The Spoils of Eden” by Linda Lee Chaikin and totally loved it. I really love her style of writing and how at the beginning of her books she always has a list of the characters, a family tree, Hawaiian terms {for this one} and a map of where the story takes place.
I love how the author talks about the beautiful places in Hawaii. She talks about the wonderful flowers, plants, trees etc.. This book also has many parts that really happened in Hawaiian history, with real names of people who have played important roles in this history.

Eden Derrington and her fiancé Rafe Easton have many things going for them, but also have more than their share of problems. Eden, has to decide if she wants to work with her father and his dream of curing leprosy or being with the man that she has loved since a very young age.
“The Spoils of Eden” is full of mystery, love, family problems and many more problems. Something for every one. I highly recommend this book. It will become one of your best loved books. I really, really like this book.

Chasing Francis: A Pilgrim's Tale by Ian Morgan Cron* A Review

A creative and compelling examination of the impact--800 years ago and today--of St. Francis of Assisi.

Chase Falson has lost his faith so he crosses the Atlantic to visit his uncle, a Franciscan priest, where he encounters the teachings of Francis of Assisi and rediscovers his ancient faith. Follow Chase's spiritual journey in the footsteps of Francis, and then begin one of your own through the pilgrim's guide included in this book.

Paperback: 256 pages
Publisher: NavPress (June 22, 2006)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1576838129
ISBN-13: 978-1576838129
Product Dimensions: 8.3 x 5.4 x 0.7 inches

About the Author
An ordained Anglican priest, Ian Morgan Cron serves as senior pastor and founder of Trinity Church in Greenwich, Conn., a non-denominational community committed to social justice as well as to communicating the Christian story through the arts.

To introduce others to St. Francis of Assisi, whom Cron has billed the “consummate postmodern saint,” he authored Chasing Francis: A Pilgrim’s Tale (September 2007, NavPress). Cron’s literary debut has received praise from a host of both Catholic and Protestant thinkers including Brian McLaren, artist Makoto Fujimura, Friar Richard Rohr, Tony Campolo and Brennan Manning. Ian lives in Old Greenwich, CT with his wife Anne and three children Cailey, Madeleine, and Aidan.

My Review
“Chasing Francis" by Ian Morgan Cron isn’t a light read. It is full of depth and will make you think like never before.
This book is written in the genre called wisdom literature, which is a very delicate balance of fiction and non-fiction, pilgrimage and teaching.
Chase Falson, megachurch pastor, lost his faith. When a young girl falls off her bike and never wakes up. Chase wonders about everything he has ever thought that was true before. His faith comes falling to the ground at the worst possible time in the middle of a sermon. Chase turns to his Uncle Kenny {even though he is just a cousin, he always called Kenny Uncle} , a Franciscan priest living in Italy. Kenny invites Chase to join him for a time in Italy, which ends up being a pilgrimage for Chase to learn about St. Francis and what he believed the church and Christians should be.
"Chasing Francis" is a book for everyone, but It will help those who have come to the end of their rope or are looking for meaning in life, to those who are perplexed about their Christian beliefs, anyone who wants to deepen their journey with the Lord, and above all to those who have become trapped in today's selfish and worldly society. "Chasing Francis" provides a study guide for anyone who would like to use this book for group discussion or personal meditation.
There are so many interesting quotes in this book and here is my favorite: “He who seeks vengeance is like a man who drinks poison hoping that it will kill his enemy.” Rwandan proverb.
I recommend this book for learning and examining yourself. A book to start you thinking, with a very nice, interesting story plot.

The Least Among You DVD Review

My Review :
This is an excellent DVD. I like movies that are based on true stories and this one didn’t disappoint me. “The Least Among You” was set in 1965, It tells the story of Richard Kelly -Cedric Sanders-, he's sent to an all-white seminary for 2 semesters as part of his probation at his mom's suggestion. One person who really helped Richard was a humble caretaker, Samuel Benton-Louis Gossett, Jr- The acting is magnificent.
Kate Allison-Lauren Holly- played a troubled teacher that once was a missionary. She has something in her past that is making her so sad. Parts of this wonderful movie will bring you sadness, joy, tears and leave you in awe.
To me it is so sad that people were treated so badly and it wasn’t so long ago either. It should make us think what kind of people were we or are now. This movie will really get you to thinking and tell you even one person can make a difference if you only try.
I highly recommend this for your collection. We watched it twice already and have only had it a couple of days. Wonderful movie with brilliant actors.

About the DVD:
Leaders are not chosen, they are called. Inspired by a true story. Richard Kelly (Cedric Sanders) is a black college graduate forced to serve probation at an all-white seminary after the 1965 Watts riots. Richard is encouraged by the seminary president, Alan Beckett, to break the color line. Richard nears his breaking point when he meets Samuel (Louis Gossett, Jr.), an elderly janitor who lives in the basement of his dormitory. As Samuel guides Richard through the trials of racism and the personal life that haunts him, Richard undergoes a transformation that forces him to choose between his dreams and his destiny.

Beautiful Bandit by Loree Lough-Book one in the Lone Star Legends Series*A REVIEW

Joshua Neville is a quiet, even-keeled rancher who was just minding his own business when he witnessed a brazen bank robbery in San Antonio, Texas, that leaves three men dead. Even more shocking than the heist itself is that the ringleader looked like a woman!

Weeks later, when Josh is on the trail, a lost and confused woman stumbles upon his campsite. He agrees to take "Dinah" to Mexico, but soon their journey is hampered by harsh weather and wild animals. When Dinah breaks her ankle, Josh takes her to his ranch to heal.

As the two grow closer, Josh realizes he's fallen in love, even as he learns the truth about Dinah. But does he know the whole story? And, after the truth comes out, will he put his life at risk to keep her with him?

A prolific writer, Loree Lough has more than seventy books, sixty short stories, and 2,500 articles in print. Her stories have earned dozens of industry and Reader's Choice awards. A frequent guest speaker for writers' organizations, book clubs, private and government institutions, corporations, college and high school writing programs, and more, Loree has encouraged thousands with her comedic approach to learned-the-hard-way lessons about the craft and industry.

For decades, Loree has been an avid wolf enthusiast, and she dedicates a portion of her income each year to efforts that benefit the magnificent animals. She splits her time between a home in the Baltimore suburbs and a cabin in the Allegheny Mountains, and she shares her life with a spoiled pointer named Cash and her patient, dedicated husband, who has supported her writing and teaching endeavors throughout the years.

My review
Beautiful Bandit by Loree Lough is a wonderful book full of adventure, love, drama and suspense. I was captivated from the first page and never lost interest at any part of the story.
The characters in this book are so likable or mean and full of angry that you just love to read it.
I like the way Josh treats “Dinah.” When they meet she seems like a crazy person who wouldn’t tell him anything about herself, but Josh still helps her and takes care of her.
When they get to his families ranch everyone there is so sweet to her and take such good care of her. I love how Dinah and Josh’s grandmother get along. They have a sweet relationship.
The first part of Dinah’s life is full of many ups and downs and she doesn’t think God cares what happens to her, but in this book as in life we find that things happen to get us from one point to another, even bad things.
Read this book to see how Dinah’s journey goes from loving parents, going to church to abuse, being put in bad situations to having everything taken away from her. She gets into a circumstance that she doesn’t know how to forget. Travel with Dinah as she meets Josh and family and sees that God loves her and is always taking care of her.
I really, really love this book. I will be keeping this one and it will be one of my top ten of the year. Also loved the cover of the book. It’s unforgettable. I highly recommend Beautiful Bandit and can’t wait for the next in the series. A wonderful book to have of your own.

The Mysterious Islands DVD review and GIVEAWAY

About the DVD
At the far end of the world, there exists a strange and unusual chain of islands, resting above vast tectonic plates in the ocean below.

This is the world of the Galapagos Archipelago, home to salt-spitting marine iguanas, flightless cormorants, and giant tortoises that can live to be more than 150 years of age. It is also the birthplace of Darwinism. For here in 1835, a young Charles Darwin began to formulate a theory which would turn the world upside down. More than a century and a half later, these mysterious islands remain at the center of a controversy that has shaped the way modern men perceive science, religion, culture, and life itself. While Christians look to Jerusalem, and Muslims to Mecca, evolutionists look to the Galapagos as the spiritual center of their scientific faith. And the unique ingredients found on the Galapagos Islands have led many of Darwin's most devoted followers to describe it as Darwin's Eden, and a "laboratory for evolution."

Now, for the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth and the 150th of his magnum opus, On the Origin of Species, Doug Phillips leads a Christian team of scientists and investigators to this "ground zero" in the war of the worldviews. Seen through the eyes of 16-year-old Joshua Phillips, who joins his father and noted researchers like Dr. John Morris of the Institute for Creation Research, The Mysterious Islands is the story of one boy's search for answers to the greatest controversy of the modern world. It is a refreshing father and son adventure that combines cinematically breathtaking footage with high adventure. The Mysterious Islands is a fast-paced film that tracks their journey of discovery as this unusual team walks where Darwin walked and engages with the amazing creatures that he chronicled in his research. Their quest: To determine whether the Galapagos Islands are a laboratory for evolution, as Darwinists claim, or a showcase for the biblical account of creation.

This beautiful ninety-minute documentary takes viewers deep beneath the ocean waves among hundreds of white-tip sharks, into volcanic craters with giant lizards, and to the unusual habitat of the blue-footed booby. Featuring a Christian team of scientists and investigators to shoot a documentary on the Galapagos in 2009—Darwin's anniversary year—The Mysterious Islands brings a fresh perspective on the Theory of Evolution and presents sweeping cinematography of one of the most remote, desolate, and fascinating locations in the world.

THE TEAM

Joshua Phillips
At the age of 16 Joshua Phillips has distinguished himself as a world explorer who has surfed the great sand dunes of Peru, hiked the top of Mt. Saribachi with veterans of the Battle of Iwo Jima, climbed Ben Nevis in the highlands of Scotland, and summitted Huana Piccu, high in the Andes Mountains, temple grounds of the ancient Incas.A product of America's thriving home education movement, the eldest of eight children and son to Doug and Beall Phillips.

Doug Phillips
The Mysterious Islands Project was birthed during a trip to the Andes Mountains in Peru when Doug Phillips heard of legends that ancient Incas may have visited the Galapagos. With the anniversary year of Darwin's birth and his magnum opus just around the corner, and with evolutionists from all over the world flocking to this "ground zero" of the Darwinian worldview, it was determined that a unique team of Christian explorers, scientists and filmmakers needed to be assembled to walk in the steps of Darwin, to see what he saw and to ask the question: "Is the Galapagos really a laboratory of evolution, or a glorious testimony of God's creation?"

Jon Erwin
Award winning producer and director Jon Erwin is no stranger to action-oriented filmmaking. Whether he is gunning and running, camera-in hand, tracking pro-athletes for ESPN, or filming 85 feet below the surface in the waters of the Galapagos, surrounded by more than one hundred white-tipped sharks, Jon is not satisfied unless he gets "the shot" every time.

Andy Erwin
It's been a big year for award-winning filmmaker Andy Erwin. Fresh from his world-premiere success with the noteworthy "God Provides" film series where he directed veteran actor and Disney star Dean Jones in the role of Abraham, Andy, his brother Jon decided to take on the daunting task of challenging the theory of evolution right from ground zero of modern Darwinism---the Galapagos Islands.

Dr. John Morris
After more than thirty years as one of the world's foremost spokesmen on the Bible and science, Dr. John Morris was able to realize a long-time dream when he traveled to the Galapagos Islands, the spiritual nerve center of the modern evolutionary movement. Dr. Morris brings his considerable experience and knowledge to The Mysterious Islands documentary project. An

acclaimed geologist

Dr. Tom Ford
Dr. Tom Ford III is a Ph.D. in biomechanics, an especially helpful discipline when examining one of Darwin's greatest errors?the belief that homology (or the study of comparative anatomies) is one of the gateways to proving evolution.

Peter Bradrick
Peter Bradrick works on the side as an independent logistics consultant specializing in event coordination, executive protection, and personnel management.

THE ANIMALS

My Review
The Mysterious Islands is a very beautiful, extremely well put together 90 minute DVD. It is a Christian documentary film about the theory of evolution vs. creationism. Seven men went on the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth and 150th anniversary of his trip to the Galapagos Islands to view what Darwin saw and tell their story through the creation stand point. The Galapagos Islands is where Darwin first went and spent a long time trying to get ideas of how to support his evolution theory.
The quality of the DVD and still pictures are so remarkable. You will be amazed at the music and content of this DVD. You will learn many new things that prove creation. Evolutionist have nothing to stand on.
If you didn’t want to watch this DVD to see about creation or evolution Just looking at the Islands and animals would make this DVD well worth watching. The animals on these beautiful Islands are so amazing. From the Galapagos Tortoise, Blue-Footed Booby, Land Iguana, Vampire Finch and the beautiful Whales. All are so special. You will be astonished at the Island with the red sand and the beach with the black lava rocks.
The Vision Forum Ministries which made this DVD makes it very clear what separates Creationist and Evolutionist. If you have ever wondered before you won’t anymore once you watch this DVD. I also think it would be really helpful to have your youth group watch this or your Bible study group. If you don’t do these things you really, really need to have your family watch it.
In this DVD you will find out who Darwin was and where he got his ideas; what specifically does natural selection do (and not do) what are the comparable characteristics between animals designate does geology really point to an really old earth and some explanation of how Darwin's ideas have influenced history.
On the special features of this DVD you will learn about early explorers to the Galápagos and the Galápagos Whaling Controversy {I especially like this feature about the whales} and many beautiful, spectacular still photos of animals,
I highly recommend this DVD. It is one that you need to have and I know you will watch it over and over and lend it to all of your friends.

He ran up and sang it word for word even though he couldn’t hardly read. And that was where the seed to perform was planted.
While Ashton sang and acted in several plays and talent shows from the ages of 4 til 9, and appeared in several commercails, His big break came when is was ten. He auditioned and made a Radio Disney group callled RD7.

As an amateur actor in the city's Karamu House Theater, he starred in the Ossie Davis play "Purlie Victorious". Cobbs was an Air Force radar technician for eight years; he also worked in office products at IBM and sold cars in Cleveland. In 1970, at the age of 36, he left for New York to seek work as an actor. From there he appeared in small theater productions, street theater, regional theater and at the Eugene O'Neill Theater. His first television credit was in "Vegetable Soup" (1976), a New York public television educational series, and he made his feature film debut in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) in 1974. In his free time Cobbs enjoys music, reading, and playing his drums.

My Review

No Limit Kids: Much Ado about Middle School is a great DVD. I was captured right from the start and was entertained all the way through. No Limit Kids: Much Ado about Middle School is about a group of outcast middle school students, whom become friends and want to save a old theater from being destroyed.
Going to a new school is always hard, but when you have personal problems in the home or are not one of the popular students it can be worse. It will bring back memories for the adults of there middle school years. It also will give future middle schoolers the confidence that they will do well and have lots of fun in school.
This DVD not only will be loved by the young, but also adults will find it very entertaining and helpful with their own children.
Celeste Kellogg and Ashton Harrell are very talented young people. They sing many songs on the DVD that are magnificent. Both of these young people have been on many other shows, movies and concerts. It is great to see young people who are not afraid to show others that you don’t need to have sex in your movies or songs. No Limit Kids: Much Ado about Middle School is well put together and has outstanding actors and actresses.
This DVD is highly recommended by Dove Foundation for being suitable for all ages. I also highly recommend this DVD, for family viewing and lots of fun entertainment.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Rudi London was born upstairs at his parent's home in the city of Nedstrand, on the southern west coast of Norway at 12:37 A.M., July 7, in the year of Rudolph. His father, Far, had called in the mid-wife and his mother, Mor, gave birth. The birthing process went flawlessly up to a certain point. This is discussed in London's book, 3 Angels (July 2010). Upon graduating High School Rudi started his computer career in January 1969 at Forsvarets (Norwegian Military/NATO) Datasentral, Oslo. Working on IBM 360 mainframes, Mr. London sent his first email from Oslo to Bergen in November that same year. July 1970, Mr. Rudi London joined the Norwegian Air Force to fly fighter jets. After completing military duty, his Computer Systems boss thought young London needed more knowledge and sent him to evenings classes at Bedriftsøkonomisk Institutt to study college importance.

MY REVIEW:
This book “3 Angels” is a really different book from Rudi’s first book “The Operator is Calling.” In “3 Angels” you follow 3 angels as they watch and protect “BOY” from before birth through all of his life. There is lots of humor, love, bad and exciting adventures as we watch Boy grow up.
I know we are watched and protected by angels but this book really brings a new outlook to the whole process. To know angels are that close gives us new feelings of love, protection and shame.
“3 Angels” is more of a whimsical book not deadly serious like some books. Really a refreshing book.
One of my favorite parts of “3 Angels” was when Boy was about to be born and he was in the wrong position. One of the angels went down to turn Boy the right way.
“3 Angels” has many wonderful things in it. The book is full of scripture verses, has many Norwegian words plus the meanings.
I would like the author to tell me who Boy is. I have a pretty good guess.
This is a book that will be enjoyed by all time and time again. It will keep you entertained and wanting to read it all as soon as possible. A real keeper.
Thanks Rudi London for another great book.

I believe heaven will feel much the same. I believe God created me to be the mother of my 4 kids, and to write stories He wanted to tell. Skinny is the first of these stories. It's sequels, Hot and Angry, continue to share God's message to girls ages 13-23.

MY REVIEW
This book is great if you love stories about teens and their problems. “Hot” talks about many subjects teens face such as problems with siblings, parents, friends, school, fitting in, sex etc…
Lindsey loves the Lord and has great parents, but troubles push her into something she isn’t ready for. “Hot” shows how important it is to have family and having your parents around. Lindsey finds herself trapped a in world of popularity, style and boys. She is torn between principles she has grown up with and the temptations that face many young people today.
Read this book and follow Lindsey, her friends and family as they try to do what’s right. I enjoyed this book, but the ending ended right in the middle of a very important part where Lindsey was talking to her boyfriend. I think it would have been better to finish the conversation before ending the book.
I highly recommend this book to all young people and their parents. It really gives you insight into what needs to be talked about and discussed.

Admission by Travis Thrasher-a review

About the book:

Admission is a riveting tale of how buried mistakes can resurface at any time. Adventure Company entrepreneur Jake Rivers gets a call from the parents of a woman who has disappeared and who was last seen with Alec, Jake’s best friend from college. The girl’s parents believe she is hiding out with Alec, but Jake hasn’t heard from him in 10 years. Jake’s moved on from his college days, but the memories of what he’s tried to forget—a friend’s suicide, an enemy’s mysterious disappearance— keep surfacing. Someone wants to keep him from discovering what really happened."

About the author:
“Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.”
This quote from Stephen King’s novella, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, sums up the goal of every single one of Travis Thrasher’s novels: providing hope. As the novelist of twelve works of fiction, Travis has spent a decade fighting against being typecast and labeled.
“It’s a natural thing for novelists to be put into a box,” Travis says. “My goal has always been to tell stories about flawed characters who find redemption, whether it’s in a love story or a supernatural thriller.”
Having lived in places as diverse as Munich, Germany, and Sydney, Australia, during his youth, Travis moved to the Chicago area during his junior year of high school. That’s where he has remained.
After graduating from Trinity Christian College, Travis landed a job at Tyndale House Publishers as Author Relations Manager. He worked for over a decade in that position, acting as liaison between the publisher and the authors. But writing always came first, and Travis was fortunate to have his first novel published in 2000. It was THE PROMISE REMAINS, a sweet love story in the vein of Nicholas Sparks.
“I wrote six or seven dark, ambitious novels that went nowhere,” Travis says. “It was only after writing a simple love story about unrequited love that I got my first break.”
Getting that first book published was a dream come true, but Travis always saw himself having multiple books in print. Travis’s drive and imagination have allowed him to see a variety of books published: from love stories (THE WATERMARK; THREE ROADS HOME) to suspense (GUN LAKE; ADMISSION; BLINDED) to drama (THE SECOND THIEF; SKY BLUE) to supernatural thrillers (ISOLATION; GHOSTWRITER).
“I tell people this is not the way to build a writing career, but I’m thankful I’ve been able to build mine the way I wanted to. I want to entertain and surprise readers, and to continue to build a readership that will take journeys with me, whether they’re going to 1929 Brazil or current day Geneva, Illinois.”
2010 will mark a decade of publishing for Travis. It will also be a significant year with the release of BROKEN by Faithwords in May and SOLITARY by Cook in August.
“I’m excited about these two upcoming stories that will surely surprise and move readers,” Travis says. “BROKEN is about a young woman who is just that—broken and bruised by this world. SOLITARY is the first in a teen series that combines a love story with the supernatural. Both are powerful stories.”
His goal continues to be to tell powerful and moving stories that will reach fiction readers of all types. As a fulltime novelist for over two years, Travis feels he’s still just warming up.
“There are things I learn about the writing process and about myself with every novel. I believe my best stories are still in front of me, waiting to be discovered like a buried treasure. I’m thankful that I’m able to dig a little more every day.”
Travis lives with his wife and three-year-old daughter in a suburb of Chicago.

My Review:
Admission is a great book that I really enjoyed. The book is told in two different years eleven years apart. It tells of college life when guys or girls mostly go to school to have fun. Admission is about Jake Rivers and his friends how they found every opportunity to party, drink and getting revenge on those him and his friends don’t like.
Jake really wants a relationship with a girl Alyssa who is trying to do good and live the right life. They have a few dates, but she doesn’t want to pursuit the relationship. Jake’s drinking and wild ways are just to much for her.
Admission tells us about sin, hatred, life, friends and finding what truly is important in life and most of all forgiveness and letting go.
This is note a fun, light hearted book, but it gives you many things to think about and lets us see what is really important and lasting in life and relationships.
An excellent book that I highly recommend.

Hurricanes in Paradise by Denise Hildreth* a review

MY REVIEW:
This book is about the lives of four very different ladies. They are all different ages, stages in life and different situations. Hurricane in Paradise takes you on a journey of love, forgiveness and peace. Even when we spend time with someone we really don’t know the hurts and heartaches they have been through. This book will have you laughing and crying.
Join Riley, Laine, Winnie and Tamyra as they enjoy the pleasures of paradise while a hurricane is on the horizon in more than one way. In this wonderful book you will see these ladies overcome their fears, struggles and losses by going to the Lord and giving Him full control of their lives. One big lesson in Hurricanes in Paradise is learning to forgive yourself. Also by learning to lean on each other. A book you don’t want to miss. A must read.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

When Riley Sinclair stepped into her new job as director of guest relations at a posh resort on Paradise Island, she felt the final pieces of her once-broken life coming together. But the waters become choppy when Riley discovers that some who come to the Atlantis Hotel are accompanied by paralyzing secrets and overwhelming fears. Riley and three guests are in desperate but unknowing need of each other, eventually forging unlikely yet powerful friendships. With a hurricane headed straight for the island, together they embark on a journey of laughter, heartache, and healing.
